There are quite a lot of pinned topics but most of them don't get any new responses. My suggestion's this:
Put on something like a JOHN WAYNE ARCHIVES in which some of these posts may go, some like Chilibill's Stories, I mean the topics that really hold some value for members who are looking for the hard data. Many members have written down stories of how they even got to meet the man, and those topics drop down the list as we go on. I think it might be important to get a hold on them and shorten the list of pinned topics at the same time which can get in the way of the hot topics of the week.

Thanks for your suggestion. I agree that often the pinned topics do crowd out the faster moving topics.

You know Roland, that's a good idea, we seem to get the clutter at the beginning of new posts, and I find myself trying to keep current ones on the first page. I think we'll look into this. Just be patient with us until we can get together.

I agree 100% with you on this Roland.

Although I didn't initiate it I think it is time to unpin my pet topic 'Saving the Searchers' although I would like some mecanism to encourage new members to go to the internet movie database and vote for these John Wayne movies.

I would also be a fan of completly removing the topics that were lost when the board crashed as they are a little irrelevant now, I notice a couple are on the pinned section and I feel these could also be removed. Another point maybe John Wayne ebay finds could go to the trading forum as it may be more apropriate there.

I also am not a massive fan of the three different sections in the general discussions this could be condenced I feel to a maximum of two as it does seem a little cramped.

Well, we moved "Ebay finds" to the Trading Post - good suggestion, Robbie.

In addition, we unpinned "Saving The Searchers" and will suggest to Kevin that maybe some of the other pinned topics could perhaps go in a sub-forum (like Various Polls and The John Wayne Picture Game) of Archives; as administrator, he is the only one who can do that.

Possibly the sequence of things could be changed, so that the sub-forums are at the bottom of the first page, instead of the top. Just a thought . . . we'll bounce it off of Kevin and the other administrators.

Thank you for taking up my suggestion. I would also like to say that it might be a good idea to merge the two topics relating to the John Wayne museum in the pinned topics area of the general discussions board. Possibly the Saving the Searchers Topic and Barons campaign to get THATM released could be grouped together into a forum of related topics the would also be an ideal place to put the suggestions for a new John Wayne museum.

One final note I like the picture of the Duke under the bridge shooting in The Sons of Katie Elder but the other one of him on a horse in the same movies is in my opinion not a great one as he doesn't look well in it could this be changed.

Hi all

I am a little disappointed that this topic has now been followed through as I thought Roland made some good suggestions although I do understand the huge energy many senior members as well as Kevin devote to this site.

I think the pinned area could be freshened up a little there are still two topics relating to the John Wayne museum, the top 25 John Wayne movies should be moved to the 'polls' section and the THATM campaign should now be removed as the movie has been released. I would also like easier access to Chillibills stories possibly a more centralised mechanism to link to each one as there are numerous stories embedded within this site.

On an additional note could the two practically dormant area ie 'suggestion box and 'Board news and announcements be merged into one section to make them both more effective and to possibly generate more interest in each.

Just some suggestions for your condsideration.

It looks like someone was listening to you, because THATM thread has been unpinned already. Funny you should mention that, because we were just looking at that last night and talking about unpinning it, but thought it should stay since the movies won't be released until August, and someone not as knowledgeable as the rest of us might wander in looking for information on just that topic.

We looked into possibly merging the Branson Museum and Virtual museum threads, but felt it would not have appropriate continuity.

As far as Chilibill's stories, it would be nice if all of his links were more condensed, rather than spread throughout the board, but we haven't figured out the most efficient way to make that happen. Maybe there might be some way for Chilibill to have some kind of index on his web site, with links to each subject.

Though Suggestion Box and Board News and Announements are not very active, they have very different purposes, so my personal opinion is that it would not be appropriate to merge the two forums into one.

Pinning some topics has certainly served us well. When was the last time you saw someone come onto the board and ask "how many movies did John Wayne die in?" :headbonk: That topic is pinned in the Newbie Forum, and appears to be well read.
