View Full Version : Duke's Character In NY
Hondo Duke Lane April 21st, 2003, 10:33 PM For the life of me, I was trying to figure out if Duke ever played in a movie that took place in New York City. I can't think of one, but maybe someone out there can. We can omit Westerns, because they are usually out west {while New York is out east}. So anyone want to tackle this one? It might be the first BIG STAR to never film a movie with the story line taking place in the Big Apple.
Good Luck

dukefan1 April 22nd, 2003, 03:58 AM The only movie Duke was in that I remember NY , was Lady Takes A Chance. Jean Arthur plays a bank clerk from New York and takes a trip out west where she meets Duke. At the end of the story, she returns to NY without him but is met at the bus depot by him and put back on the bus to go back west to be with him. So, he must have been in NY to be at the bus depot. That's as close as I can come to putting him in the Big Apple.

I think Trouble Along the Way took place in NYC. Remember folks went to Yankee Stadium to watch the ball game?
Of course, neither of us had seen this movie when you first posted the question.

Here's a point made in the Movie Review,
of interest to you!
Errors in geography:
Although the movie is set at a college in New York,
there is a California flag flying near the stadium when Steve first meets the football team.
Does anyone know which College/Univeristy was used?
chester7777 February 8th, 2007, 09:24 AM Interestingly enough, IMDb does not list filming locations for Trouble Along the Way. I think it is filmed on a studio lot, as the scene with the California flag and other outdoor scenes on the football field seem to have other studio buildings in the background - you know, those real big ones with the curved roof. I guess the shots with Yankee Stadium are probably really there, but I'm not sure about anyplace else.

ethanedwards February 8th, 2007, 09:57 AM Jim,
When I was reasearching Duke's Movie Locations,
'Trouble' was one of very few Duke films,
where locations were not listed.
However, we at least have some information.
Hondo Duke Lane February 14th, 2007, 10:55 PM You know that Trouble Along the Way is entertaining and such, but seeing this movie recently, I realize that geography was a big problem for this movie. They went to Yankee Stadium (Bronx, New York), and South Bend, Indiana (Notre Dame, University), and some other place. So, this movie had a geography problem, but still entertaining.
Cheers,

Hondo,
Football teams travel to other schools to play, so that is not such a problem. Living at the school and going to watching a game at Yankee Stadium - now that would indicate that the story is taking place in NYC.
