While other John Wayne web sites offer much information, I have yet to see one that has a message board as nice as this one. Not only that, instead of having a new message every two or three days, the folks here post quite often and do it with class B) .

On one site that used to have its own message board, now it links to this one.

As long as we're all working towards promoting the positive influence of John Wayne on our society, competition (between sites) is good.

The more, the merrier :D .

Last night, I was browsing at Yahoo, searching through their groups related to John Wayne, and found one I think you would really enjoy, McCandles Texas (http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/MccandlesTexas21Century/). You don't have to be a member of the group to read its posts.

The man who started the group, "Sheriff" Austin R. Taylor (aka Art) is a very friendly and knowledgeable John Wayne enthusiast, who has spent over twenty years researching not only JW, but the historical events and time periods that are part of his movies.

His articles, This Date in Wayne Movie History, are particularly well written and provide real insight to the period, and tie the history to specific movies, and sometimes offer some trivia about the films as well.

Sheriff Taylor has graciously given us permission to occasionally repost some of his articles (with full credit, of course), so if we come upon some that are especially pertinent to a thread, we will share them.

I feel this group and its postings are generally of a high caliber and hope you do, too.

:D

Chester

P.S. I didn't realize this until someone pointed it out, you DO need to sign up for a yahoo account in order to access the groups. However, you do not have to sign up for the particular group above to read their message board (although, as with many boards, you do need to be a member to post).

As I cruise the Information Super Highway, looking at different John Wayne web sites, I occasionally stumble upon one that belongs to one of our members here at the John Wayne Message Board, and what a pleasant surprise it is. :)

I would like to encourage each and every one of you who has a site dedicated to the Duke, no matter how small, to post a link here in this thread. I haven't seen one yet that is not worthy of mention here.

I know at least two of you have posted that info in other threads (Monique and dukefan1), and I think Baron has posted something to that effect, but I hope all of you will repost here as well.

My website is more like a webpage B) As I grow on my PC and learn my webpage will also  Mine inturn will grow from a webpage to a website
But if you are a John Wayne fan you will find this is by far the best website  And if you are reading this as a visitor and not joining, then we the fan are losing here

It takes all of us to pass the information or pass ideas. If you don't we all lose. So if you are reading this logg on, say your piece.

I have posted the link to this messageboard as well as encouraged all to ask questions here or post a comment. I have yet found another MB that is anywhere equal to this one. :)

Baron,

We want you to post your web site address here, in this thread, for all to see. One night, in our cruisin', we came upon your site, and were pleasantly surprised to discover it was yours.

So . . . post that address! :D

Chester, my boy!

I will post it here soon. As of right now I am revamping it to look better, fixing some links, and adding some more fun stuff. But you have my promise that I will post the link soon. :)

Oh by the way, if anyone wishes for me to post a link from my site to theirs, I will gladly do so in return that you post a link from yours to mine. That way we can get more people to visit our websites.

(06/27/2009 - Please excuse this moderator interruption . . . but it has come to my attention that baron's site is still up and running . . . here (http://www.angelfire.com/zine/timetraveler/johnwayne.html) . . . and I want to encourage all of you who visit there, to sign his guest book!!

Thanks for letting me intrude . . . and now, back to our regularly scheduled programming . . . . Chester )

OK, I know I've said this before, how you look at one thing on the web that takes you to something else that takes you to something else that . . . ? You get the idea. Well, that happened to me again tonight. Via a most circuitous route, which I couldn't retrace if my life depended on it, I came upon a slide show on this site (http://www.bartonmacleod.com/-/bartonmacleod/galleryindex.asp), by Barton MacLeod, who apparently at some point crossed paths with Duke and got some neat pictures of him (also Maureen O'Hara, too!). When you get to the site, you click on the words "slide show" (#2 and #3 seem to be more Duke-related). I also see that some of Bryan Varnham's art work is featured (he's a member here!).

Then I came back here, and had a very fuzzy memory of this thread, and felt it was the right place to post about a new site. So . . . I read the thread through from the beginning and discovered that some of the sites mentioned are still active! I recommend y'all do the same thing!

And just a reminder - if you have a site devoted to Duke, please let us know about it! We'd love to check it out!

Some years ago I started collecting the plates made about JW, starting with the Franklin Mint ones. I then started getting as many others that I could find. I have always had the 'collecting' thing. That stopped for some years as I was too busy with work and family, then it started again a few years ago. I recently resurrected my web site on JW plates (http://www.johnwayneplates.info/) after I found that some new official plates were on sale.
I wanted to bring attention to firstrebel's web site on JW plates (referenced in his post above).

It is VERY well done, and has a mountain of information about many types of plates, covering a wide range of producers and time. Check it out!

Thanks for sharing that, Bob!

You beat me to this thread Chester, thanks for adding it. Plates are not the easiest things to photograph if you don't have the right equipment. They catch the light or are too dark or too light with washed-out colours.

I would appreciate any additional information that can be added.

Sorry, Bob, didn't mean to jump the gun on you ! But I was so impressed with your site that I wanted folks to know about it.

You've done a good job with the pics of the plates!
