View Full Version : John Wayne Autograph
duker777 February 18th, 2005, 08:18 PM Hello friends!
Well, as you can see, I am really excited to have joined this group, and I am rambling at the fingers so to speak and posting lots of topics.
Anway, I was hoping some of you might have some fun stories of autographs you have gotten from John Wayne. Or maybe your family members or friends have gotten them and passed them down to you with a great story behind it. So, here's the deal...
If you have an autograph that you got personally from John Wayne, tell us the story.
If you have an autograph that was passed down through the family with a story, tell us abou it.
Maybe you have an autograph that you bought or was given to you, tell us about these also.
Any story to do with obtaining a John Wayne autograph is game.
Have fun!! Sorry, I don't have an autograph, so I cannot start us out with a story, but I sure wish I did have one.
arthurarnell February 19th, 2005, 02:37 AM Hi Duke 777
Mine is the famous picture of Duke as Hondo walking with his rifle and the dog alongside him. Its in black and white inscribed in ink Best Wishes Bobby John Wayne
It was a retirement present from my wife bought off e bay for a hell of a lot of money.
Regards
Arthur
The Ringo Kid February 19th, 2005, 04:28 PM :cowboy: I wish I had one but do not. The closest I had that is comparable to John Wayne was one poersonalized to me from James Cagney a few months before he passed away. :(
duker777 February 19th, 2005, 06:05 PM James Cagney would be a cool one to have too! My favorite movie stars in order are: John Wayne
Humphrey Bogart
Harry Carey Jr.
James Cagney
Robert Mitchum
So I would have loved to have had a James Cagney one also. I have one from Robert Conrad, because I am also a Wild Wild West fan, and that is cool, but not as cool as one from The Duke would be. No offense intended Mr. Conrad!
The Ringo Kid February 20th, 2005, 02:54 PM :cowboy: HI Chris, I hear ya on those choices as well. I was lucky to have met Mr. Cagney in of all the places, a sidewalk cafe. He was drinking coffee and reading a newspaper. I was goaded into walking up to him and asking him for an autograph. My parents and I had just left a tourist trap shop and I had just bought about 15 8x10 photo's of movie stars (several were of John Wayne) and I had one of James Cagney in the group. When I did get the courage to walk up to him (I was about 15 at the time) he asked what I had in my bag and I handed it to him. He took the pile of photo's out of it and was impressed that I had one of him in it. Without having to ask, he signed the photo to me from him adding good luck and then the date.
Best regards--TRK.
duker777 February 20th, 2005, 08:51 PM Wow! Cool story, thanks for sharing TRK. Wouldn't it be cool to have had a similar experience with the Duke?

This was I think way before your time, but you being a newer member on this Site, you might want to read the story that I did some time back called "Duke Stories" and Duke giving a autograph picture to all the Cast and Crew after the Film "Angel and the Badman" done in 1947 up here in Sedona,Arizona was in the Can. I also have a large autograph Picture out of one of the "RIO FILMS" that I got from Duke in the late 1970s. It is the picture of him coming out of the Sheriffs Office with his Rifle in his Right Hand and a Badge on His Chest. I am sitting here looking at them now in my Den. To read about the one that I got from Duke for the "Angel and The Badman" you can go to BADMAN (http://www.wyntoontrip.com/BADMAN1.html) Chilibill :cowboy:

OH man! Very cool!, I haven't gotten to read them all yet, but the "Angel and the Badman" story is just awesome! What fun! I can only dream and wish! By the way, did you get to see Gail Russell? At the risk of sounding silly, I have always thought she was the most beautiful movie star in the world! Too bad she had such a rough life and died a very sad death. Anyway, thanks so much for sharing. I bet you wish you still had that 1935 Ford Coupe? Well, I think I will read the rest of your Duke stories since I am sitting home sick today, feeling like something the cat drug in. See ya friends!
The Ringo Kid February 21st, 2005, 08:33 PM :cowboy: Hi Chris, quite welcome. TRK.

Great post Patrick, and how proud you must be
to have that letter, on show in your home.
What a great story, and thanks for sharing.

I was thrilled to recieve it.At that time he was the most famous star in the world and its typical of him to remember me and send me that letter..Its nice to have it and some of my friends still dont believe that he would go to that trouble. But he was The Duke and nothing was too much trouble for a fan.....
