Today I had trouble retrieving the messageboard through my usual bookmarked way of coming to the site. When I click my bookmarked heading for here, I get a "error cannot find website dukewayne.com" and I am taken to my search engine. Only when I go through the search engine and come through to the site through the jwayne.com homepage can I get here. Make sense? Just letting the mods know that there seems to be some trouble. Anyone else experiencing this?

When I went to reply to this message I got the following statement.

Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.

The error returned was:

I do sometimes get told that site www.dukewayne.com cannot be found and I have also noticed as of late that posts seem to be going missing.

We've been having the same problem for a few days, although this morning it came up just fine using my bookmark. As moderators, there is nothing we can do. In this case, only Kevin can help out. In fact, when something like this happens, it is a good idea to email Kevin, so he is aware that there is a problem.

A few days ago, we had some kind of error, and we were even unable to email Kevin through the message board. Luckily, we have his email address in our address book, so were able to contact him regarding the problem.

If, for some reason you are unable to contact Kevin (or anyone else) through the message board, feel free to contact me directly at chesterb777@yahoo.com, and I can forward your concern on to Kevin.

Hey Guys,

Due to continued growth at my web hosting company (SkyeCom.Net) I've had to move dukewayne.com to a new server. No fears :-) Back ups where made prior to the server migration just in case. You *may* have spotty issues with accessing the site for the next day or so until everything settles out.

If anyone here ever needs to contact me directly via email you can use this email

web-dev [at] exit-1.com
(replace the [at] with the symbol of course).

I've had to move about 100 domain account recently so I've been a little pre occupied.

Cheers,
Kevin

Ah ha -

That was the fly in the buttermilk, was it? I thought "Twilight Zone" had met the John Wayne Message Board. Glad to see things are up and working again.

Jay,

You think this one was bad, you should have been here 8 mounths ago!
A computer glitch got us for over 2000 posts. These computers aren't always
as clever as one might think. <_<

I agree Chester -

Computers are only tools, albeit the kind that rely on high technology to do the job. But sometimes you run into a tool not being the right one for the job - then you get frustrated. Not an exact analogy, but you get the general idea.

Thankfully at this moment in time I am having no problems at all but I would be accessing the board at different times than many of the rest of you.

I do hope that the messageboard is not running into trouble.

Hey everyone,

When you say that you are having trouble getting in, what do you mean by that? I'm not sure what you are talking about. I have never had any trouble, but I'd like to get this to Kevin and see about. Seems more and more of you are displaying a problem, and I have not idea what you are talking about. Like I said, I haven't had any trouble at all.

Cheers B)

Hi Hondo -
If the others are running into the same problem that I have on a couple of occasions, when the website is addressed, you get a "This Page Cannot Be Found."
This happened to me three weeks ago (Feb. 17 and 18) and week before last (Feb. 25). This was a problem that continued over a day or more when it happened. Gremlins in the circuit boards perhaps???

Regards - Jay <_<

Most of the time I can get the opening page and then if I try to go to another page it comes up with the page that said "This page is not available" !!! Chilibill :cowboy:

The problem with the site lies within the hosting company. I have tried to access the site over 40 times in the last week at varying times and this is the first time I've actually got in.

I'm not sure who owns the site but you're going to want to setup a site monitor to see exactly how much your site is down and then contact your hosting company with that information or just switch hosting companies all together.

Hope the board stays up this time,
Chris Elliott

Thanks for your comments. I will pass this along to Kevin our webmaster, and let him problem solve this. I assume that it is still going on. So, I'll see if Kevin can address this. Please bear with us.

Thanks again and cheers B)

Hi,

I've merge the two thread about the site outage into this thread which addresses this issue.

This is a propagation issue due to a server move. Sometimes it takes a while for local ISP to update their DNS servers.

Thanks,
Kevin

We've had our share of problems getting the message board to come up recently as well. We use our bookmark, and get an error message that the site can't be found. We try a few times, and it eventually comes up, most of the time.

I wonder if distance from the site origin has anything to do with it. Hondo, you are quite close, generally speaking. We are clear across the country, and some of the others who have experience problems are farther away.

Who knows?? Computers - you love 'em, you hate 'em!

Chester,

This is the internet. I can't imagine that distance has anything to do with it, but what do I know? I'm sure that Kevin is still looking into it. By the way, Kevin, your site listed has given me nothing but an error page. Not sure what I need to see, but it seems that it isn't getting where I need to go.

Cheers B)

Kevin

Okay, I think I may have found the problem. Without getting technical it has something to do with the domain settings. I've adjusted these setting and we'll see if this clears up the on again, off again issue. We may have one more period of off and on downtime until the new settings take effect.

Thanks for your understanding.

Kevin

Just a FYI. I had more problems from my end this am. Is there something I can do or is it all a server side issue? Thanks Kevin.

Wierd happenings - I was able to get on the main menu from Tuesday (Mar. 15) through Wednesday afternoon (March 16), but was not able to access anything else. I did notice during that time that the picture banner at the top was missing.
