If any of you John Wayne fans out there know of any intersting triva relating to him post it here so we can all enjoy it.
Heres one to get you started.

John Wayne was trying to get some sleep one night in an hotel room before a big film shoot the next day. Loud music was playing from the room above so John Wayne phoned down to the receptionist of the hotel who put him through to the room where the loud music was comming from. John realised that the person who was in charge of the party ws Frank Sinatra so Duke asked him to turn the music down, Sinatra complied and Duke went to sleep. Almost immedietly the music strated up again Duke phoned up again and the music went down, then after a while it went back up again this happened 5 or 6 times. Finally Duke went up and knocked on the door and was greated by a Sinatra bodyguard, Duke explained the situation to the bodyguard and asked to see Sinatra. The bodyguard was a big man almost as big as the Duke and he said you are not seeing Mr Sinatra now get out of here before I hurt you and he pushed Duke out the door. Duke turned as if to walk back towards his room but suddenly turned puched the bodyguard in the stomach and then the face, knocking him to the ground and then picked up a chair and smashed it over the bodyguards head knocking him out, Duke then walked back towards his room. Needless to say there was no more loud music.

Maybe my question is a bit naive but I would be very interested in John Wayne Trivia, and was quite surprised by your own trivia starter. Where did you recieve this information, was it from a documentary, a book, or an eye witness account. I would be very interested in where you got this information, as i would like to read more about it. We seem to have the same interests in topics as you replied to my feminist issue and i got back to your reply on that feminist issue. :rolleyes:

figgered I could amuse you with this little piece of trivia. It ain't in any Wayne book. I once had the oppurtunity to interview a guy named Mazzega who was working at Cinecitta Studios in Rome in the Fifties. He met a lot of celebrities as he himself was covering parties for a big italian newspaper at that time. Used to visit the Ben Hur set frequently and even got to ride Heston's horses. Had a thing going with Kim Novak at one point. Anyway, he met JW in 57 when he was there to shoot Legend of the Lost. They were partying all night and Mazzega noticed Wayne was drinking heavily. By the end of the night, he wasn't able to get up again, so Mazzega and some other guy helped him into a taxi ("he was a heavy man!") and into his hotel, bedding him down. Next day he decided to look after him - and Wayne didn't recognize him again! Mazzega never used the story - which I think is very nice of him - but he showed me the photograph to prove it. Very nice old gentleman.

This little topic I started seems to be dieing a quiet death so I will add another bit of trivia to it, in order to breathe some life into it and hopefully get a few other members adding some triva they know about the Duke.

Ward Bond was messing about on the set of a movie one day and he came up with this game that him and the Duke should play. He placed this newspaper on the ground and told Duke to stand at one end and him at the other. The aim was to puch the other person from the distance that the newspaper was seperating them and the overall object was to ground the other person( something similar to a scene in the Alamo).

Ward Bond Swung at the Duke hit him full suck in the face, Duke stuttered but didnt fall. Ward Bond then picked up the newpaper walked in through a door closed the door behind him and pushed half the paper out of the gap at the bottom of the door. Duke seen Ward smirking at him through the window section of the door Duke was really pis*ed of he walked up to the edge of his section of the newpaper aimed at the window puched his fist right through it grounded Ward bond on the other side and won the bet.
