Traveling thru the Ohio ,Pa, Ny area this summer along I 90?
About 20 mi from Erie Pa in a place called Finley Lake Ny. You'll find Dukes ' hairpiece.
It is in a John Wayne / Military museum that has been started there. There are some interesting items on display Admis $5

And about 30 mi from there....is the Lucy museum in Jamestown NY. Where you can see her wig!
Admis $5

Directions are easy just get to the business district for either.
In Finley Lake the business district is on the left side of the road....the lake is on the right.
In Jamestown on the week end the main street is shut off, you found the museum.

I don't know if it is currently on display, but one of JW's hair pieces is at the Smithsonian. And after a web search on google, we came upon the following site:

Celebrity Hair (http://www.hollywoodhair.com/html/hair_replacment_for_the_movies.html)

which has a picture of one of his hairpieces if you scroll down the page.
Believe it or not, you will recognize it.

The search also found a lot of other interesting things about John Wayne. I just typed in "john wayne hairpiece" (without the quotation marks), and a myriad of things came up - lots of interesting reading.

Around '65 transplants were "IN"
Sinatra ...Joey Bishop were two that had them and promoted them.
Joey did Ok..... Sinatra on the other hand put about $100 G's into it,..... it didn't take, he went back to a hair piece.

Duke may have done the same thing, with the same results.
As it was explained to me......if it stopped growing once........... :(

I was surprised to find out that John Wayne WORE a hairpiece. I thought his hair looked good until I saw a picture of him visiting troops in Vietnam. He was not wearing his hairpiece and I thought it was Lyndon Johnson! His hairpieces, like Frank Sinatras, looked great and natural until the 70's. Then they looked pretty bad, like some small animal. I should add that I found out he wore the hairpiece years ago, I am not THAT nieve!
