He went to it on an armoured tank at high noon. Smokey sorry I missed you earlier on the messageboard. B) smokey May 22nd, 2003, 08:13 AM hi robbie, that would have been something to see wish i could have but was only a litle tacker then. cheers smokey :D REASR May 24th, 2003, 11:09 PM I often think of the Q&A session, when the girl hollered 'Hey John Wayne.... ----- You! " And Duke just laughed and said " Well... ---- You too Lil Lady". I wonder if she tells the story, since you didn't see her on the tape. Rick Hondo Duke Lane May 31st, 2003, 09:29 PM Robbie, I found that Duke appeared in Newsweek on January 28, 1974. This was concerning Duke's trip to Harvard University to accept his "Brass Balls Award." Duke did arrive on an armored personnel carrier. I haven't found the article yet, but thought you would be interested in the date of this. Hondo B) Robbie June 1st, 2003, 06:24 PM Thanks Hondo That date would be correct as the film McQ(1974) was premiered at the event, but do you know how to locate quotes from the event I know a few but would be interested in finding out more, duke was even asked about womens lib. cheers B) Robbie June 3rd, 2003, 07:53 PM There is actually quite few akward questions asked to the Duke about his image etc here but he handles it with style and wit. Does anyone have or knwo if this is available on DVD? B) dukefan1 June 4th, 2003, 08:38 AM I would have liked to see the transcript of this meeting also, but don't have any idea how to get it. The only partial transcript I saw was in the book: Duke, A Love Story by Pat Stacy. I'll add them here for those who never saw them. Q: Where did you get that phony toupee? A: It's not phony. It's real hair. Of course it's not mine, but it's real. Q: Is it true that your horse filed seperation papers? A: He was a little upset when we didn't use him in the last picture. Q: What did you use? A: Three good-looking women Q: What are your views on womens lib? A: I think they have a right to work anyplace they want to...as long as they have dinner on the table when you come home. Q: Can you do an Ed Sullivan imitation? A: I'm having a hard enough time imitating people who are imitation me. Q: Why do you refuse to allow midgets in your major films? A: It's too hard to find their mouths to punch. Q: Has President Nixon ever given any suggestions for your movies? A: No, they've all been successful. Q" What have you done with the Watergate tapes? A: If anybody is taping this show, I hope it's a Democrat, because the Republicans sure will lose it. Q: Is it true that since you've lost weight, your horse's hernia has cleared up? A: No, he died and we canned him, which is what you are eating at the Harvard Club. Q: Do you look at yourself as the fulfillment of the American dream? A: I don't look at myself any more then I have to, friend. Q: How did they get you to put up with all this? A: Well, I kinda like it. I'll tell ya, when I was a little boy, we had Holloween, in which you could tear things apart, and the Forth of July, when you could blow your heads off. All the do-gooders have stopped all that, and I think you have to have a day when you can use up all the energy you wish...It's been a lot of fun. Well, that's all I have. If anyone else knows where to find the full transcript, please let us know. I would also like to get the full transcript of Barbara Walters interview with him. anyone got one? dukefan1 Robbie June 4th, 2003, 06:56 PM Thanks very much Duke fan some great information there, also any additional help from anyone else would be good. B) REASR June 4th, 2003, 10:55 PM You left out ... " Is that real hair?" " sure is not mine....but its real........I paid enough for it " Rick Chisum June 6th, 2003, 01:01 PM OK, lets see how out of step you are with kids of today. You can find some of the Dukes narratives by going to Kazaa and downloading what you want. If you don't know how to do it look for a teenager and have them show you how to download from Kazaa. Good hunting. chester7777 June 6th, 2003, 01:51 PM Chisum, On behalf of all, I would like to welcome you to the John Wayne message board and say that we appreciate your comments. As far as Kazaa goes, I have two teenagers in the house and a wife who is a computer geek as well, so I'm in fat city :D with respect to downloading things. Again, welcome, and keep on postin'!
