View Full Version : Technical Issues
Kevin June 20th, 2005, 07:25 PM Hi all,
Please bare with me while I correct an issue that has popped up while updating things in the admin area. HOPEFULLY I'll be able to smooth things out quickly tonight, if I'm unable to fix it tonight I'll have to work on it tomorrow. I have other commitments tonight, and the last thing I needed was to deal with an issue. ;-) There's no time tonight for something like this
I'll keep you posted on the fix.
Cheers,
Kevin
Kevin June 20th, 2005, 07:31 PM Hum, I believe I've fixed it.
Please let me know if you come across any error messages. Please post your error finds here. Please only post errors to this thread.
Thanks,
Kevin
Stumpy June 20th, 2005, 07:56 PM Kevin,
You are an electronic marvel. In six munutes you fixed a problem that was preventing people from logging on.
ethanedwards June 20th, 2005, 08:05 PM Kevin,
I agree with stumpy,
back on-line OK,
thanks, it was looking like
a boring night!
SXViper June 20th, 2005, 09:33 PM Kevin, your so good I never even knew there was a problem!!!
chester7777 June 21st, 2005, 02:42 AM Kevin,
I don't exactly have an error message to report, but something rather odd . . .
down at the bottom of the main page, under Board Statistics, it shows the following (as of the time of this post, anyway) -
Our members have made a total of 11,270 posts
We have 661 registered members
The newest member is CClemens
Most users ever online was 21 on Aug 11 2004, 05:00 PM
That's really old stuff, and CClemens was last active in November 2004.
What gives???

Don't know how you noticed this Chester.
I'm with Sxviper in my admiration for the time and commitment devoted to this board.

Kevin June 24th, 2005, 07:40 PM I fixed the "newest member" section. I had to rebuild the stats for the board.
I think everything is back the way that it was.

Robbie,
I look at the board statistics almost every time I log on, and knew that we were around 14 or 15 thousand posts, so the post count was the first tip off that something was amiss. I also look to see if we have any new members, and might click on the user name to access their profile and see if they have made any posts (and maybe included a photo in their profile - how 'bout it, Robbie  ?). That's how I discovered that CClemens had joined late last year (and obviously we had newer members than that).
So . . . it's not a lot of time on any one day, but it helps me keep abreast of what's going on.

Get you now Chester I thought that you remembered that particular user from on year ago whom never made any posts.
Yes I have yet to grace the board with a picture, I think only myself and Roland have yet to do so out of the long term top posters, I think Mike posted one a year ago if my memory serves me correctly.

ethanedwards July 9th, 2005, 07:38 PM Hi Kevin,
I notice the most online users stats,
are now distorted by all those spiders,
you had on July 2nd!!!
chester7777 July 9th, 2005, 09:35 PM ethanedwards,
I realize we have many spiders visiting, and I may have missed something, but what would make you think the majority of the visitors that day were the eight legged variety? :fear:
Possibly Kevin can fill us in.
Chester :newyear:
SXViper July 9th, 2005, 11:19 PM Spiders? :fear: I hate them things!! My wife has to kill them!! :fear:
Seriously though, what are we talking about here?
ethanedwards July 10th, 2005, 04:04 AM That's got you all thinking!!!
Well I think the spiders are still in there,
but perhaps, Kevin, has eliminated them!!
Ha Ha

I'm not sure, but I think maybe there are a couple of answers to that.
chester7777 July 10th, 2005, 11:53 AM Let's see if I can explain this correctly. I'm sure if I don't, Kevin can clarify.
Do you notice that the "Ads by Google" at the top of the page often correspond in some way to what's being discussed directly below? There are computer "feelers" or spiders that tell what's going on and give input as to what to advertise. These spiders show up as Guest in the Board Statistics. There's no way (that I know of) to tell which guest is a computer generated one and which is a real person just checking out the board. My guess is that when there are many guests, the percentage of spiders is close to the normal, since we don't routinely have a hundred folks online. Spiders probably account for a fairly small number of guests.
Nothing that a good can of Raid can't fix! :headbonk:

SXViper July 10th, 2005, 03:50 PM Wow, I noticed that before but never really understood how it was done. Damn things turn up everywhere.
Robbie July 11th, 2005, 07:38 AM Thats very funny, I always wondered why the banner advertisements very very contemporary in relation to the conversations, in actual fact it displays how impressive these so called 'spiders' are.

chester7777 July 11th, 2005, 09:32 PM Robby,
Yea, at first my wife and I were wondering if our computor was reading our minds,
when the ads seemed to be advertising exactly what we were talking about.

Popol Vuh July 12th, 2005, 04:20 PM I tried to do a search on the message board and one of the treads that comes up in the search is
John Wayne Hero Or Zero?

When I click the link it returns an error saying: Sorry, some required files are missing, if you intended to view a topic, it's possible that it's been moved or deleted. Please go back and try again.
When I try browsing the General Discussions forum I can't find the thread.

Hondo Duke Lane July 12th, 2005, 05:21 PM Popol Vuh,
We moderators on this message board, from time to time have to remove topics due to the content of the subject or threads. This was one of them, and was removed because of it. You were denied access because it was either deleted or put in controlled access by the moderators and/or the administrator. I remember the topic and I couldn't find it, so I am assuming that it was deleted. I might have done it myself. I can't remember why; it was last fall.
I hope that answers your question. As for the content that had it removed. Well with that topic, I bet you can guess why it was removed.
Cheers B)
Popol Vuh July 12th, 2005, 05:50 PM Fair enough Hondo. It just seemed strange that it pops up when you do a search. My searchword was actually "rookie".
Hondo Duke Lane July 13th, 2005, 01:51 AM Popol Vuh,
I found the topic, and it is on a moderation site. It has not been deleted, and it has been put there due to the content. I was afraid of that, but I had a chance to review, and that is why you could pull it up. If this was deleted, then you would not have known about it. So, you found a way to find a topic, when we send it to moderation site.
Thanks for the information. I didn't know you could do that. And don't worry about it, it's not worth reading or knowing anything about it.
Cheers B)
Robbie July 14th, 2005, 05:26 PM Popol
I was the member whom started that topic 'John Wayne hero or zero', I was trying to achive a balanced and HONEST perspective of the man. However some felt I was being dishonourable to John Wayne and laid into personal attacks on me and for this reason I demanded that the topic was removed.

Popol Vuh July 14th, 2005, 07:26 PM Hi Robbie and Hondo.
I have no problems with threads being deleted. I feel that the moderators can choose what guidelines they want on their sites. I also want to say that I was not looking for that thread in particular. I did a search for something I remember was posted on this forum a while back and when the results were returned this was one of the threads that turned up. When I clicked on the link I received an error message. From my side it looked like there was a problem on the server. If the thread was deleted I would have expected it not to show up at all. Hondo has explained why this happened and I have no problem with this. Had I known the thread was deleted I would never have bothered to mention it.
For me everything is cool on this forum and it always has been.

ethanedwards November 8th, 2005, 03:20 PM Hi Everyone,
Is it just me? or is anyone else finding this site,
terribly slow, and hard to access today??
Keith
Jay J. Foraker November 8th, 2005, 03:32 PM Hi Keith -
I've been having the same problem since yesterday afternoon. Most of the time, I've been able to get on, but activation has been sluggish to say the least. A few hours ago, I couldn't log on, but mostly the problem has been a snail's pace for each attempt to go from one area to the next.
Cheers - Jay <_<
Jay J. Foraker November 9th, 2005, 10:20 AM This a.m. (local time), the board is still slow, slow, slow in its reactions. I wonder if any other members are having trouble besides Keith and myself?
Cheers - Jay <_<
ethanedwards November 9th, 2005, 10:32 AM Hi Kevin and Jay,
Likewise, I am finding it painfully sluggish and slow,
in logging on, etc etc,
Everything is talking an eternity to do!!!
I can't understand why no one else as noticed,
although I do note that not many members have logged on recently!
Perhaps, they haven't waited around!!
Keith
SXViper November 9th, 2005, 02:00 PM I am having the same problems, its alittle better at work. But, at home I am having no luck. Very slow. See you guys when it straightens out.
ethanedwards November 11th, 2005, 05:49 AM Hi,
Just to let you know,
everything is back to normal!!
Keith
Jay J. Foraker November 11th, 2005, 09:46 AM That's a relief. I had given up trying to post because the waiting period between clicks was so extensive!
Cheers - Jay -_-
ethanedwards November 16th, 2005, 05:51 AM Hi Kevin,
The board seems to have slowed down to a snails pace again,
and this message keeps popping up:-
IPB WARNING [2] mysql_connect(): #08004Too many connections (Line: 115 of /ips_kernel/class_db_mysql.php)
There appears to be an error with the database.
You can try to refresh the page by clicking here.

Seems to be alright for me at work. I will try to see what the connection will be like when I get home.
ethanedwards November 16th, 2005, 10:50 AM Hi Kevin,
It's OK again now, but the message, that
I copied to you, is the one that frequently occurs,
so now at least you have a note of the error number,
Cheers,
Keith
