Hondo Duke Lane July 2nd, 2005, 05:53 PM B5Erik,
Now those DVD covers are cool! That's C-O-O-L! The problem is I have all but one of those movies in my collection. What am I suppose to do about that? Are there extras there that are not in the older DVD's? Where did you get this information? Is there a push to get this in a box set?
I know that I am asking a lot of questions that you may not be able to answer, but maybe you can refer to a site for answers.
Cheers B)
ethanedwards July 2nd, 2005, 07:03 PM Hi B5Erik,

Too....many....questions.........Head....about.... to....explode! :P
Seriously, I just noticed the new cover art in the listings on Amazon. I want many of those covers as well - but I think that all Paramount is doing is changing the artwork, and not adding any extras. Hell, The Shootist already has a really nice "Making Of" featurette!
I may try contacting Paramount to see if there is any way to get just the cover art. I doubt there is, but some of those are just awesome!
smokey July 3rd, 2005, 09:00 AM hi b5erik

Emmanuel July 5th, 2005, 07:12 AM Hi all.
Great posters, You can see Duke ageing slightly in each one. I have all of these movies as well, but with different covers.
Emmanuel.

I must say that I liked the picture as well of In Harms Way. Then I went back and looked at it again and being a "old salt" I noticed something peculiar. Look near the top of the forward mast, do you notice a white dome? That is called a MK 15 Phalanx Close-In Weapons System (CIWS), and that came out in the mid eighties. Then if you look closer you will notice that it is has the numbers 989 on the side of the ship up front. That my friends is the Spruance class destroyer Deyo(DD-989). Here is some info on the ship and its history:
Laid down by Litton Ingalls, Pascagoula Miss. October 14 1977.
Launched January 20 1979 and commissioned March 22 1980.
Decommissioned November 6 2003 in Norfolk, VA.
And here is a link to a better picture of the Deyo. Picture of USS Deyo DD-989 (http://www.navsource.org/archives/05/0598927.jpg)
I just hate it when they re-work something and it is historically inaccurate.
Emmanuel July 5th, 2005, 11:51 PM Hi SXViper.
You would have to get up real early to catch you out. well spotted. ;)
It's still a great cover.

SXViper July 6th, 2005, 04:43 PM I am a stickler for authenticity. Allot of times in war films you just cannot get the correct tank, jeep, uniform, ect... But in the movie In Harms Way it was quite obvious that the battle scenes were shot with models. But, to use a ship that was commissioned 15-20 years after the film was made and super impose that onto a new cover is ridiculous. Paramount could have easily taken some footage that would have been just as good.
One other note, if any of you have ever seen the movie Pearl Harbor with Ben Affleck, if you look closely during the attack you will notice a group of ships moored together and they are the same types of ships as the Deyo that are used for ships on battleship row. I don't want to get into a discussion about the movie, just a side note about the ships that were used. The Navy has been decommissioning this class of ships in the past 10 years, making way for the newer Aegis class cruisers.
chester7777 July 7th, 2005, 01:25 AM As an old Navy man myself, I've always felt that the attack scenes of Pearl Harbor in In Harm's Way seemed a little hokey, compared to other movie's renditions of it (although the rest of the movie was fine). The destroyers were obviousy a little newer than what was around in 1941, and they seem to have a lack of any battle ships during this attack, which was not the case in real life.

Hondo Duke Lane July 7th, 2005, 05:36 PM I appreciate you guys for knowing such details like that in movies. I am not a navy man, or would know the difference in the ships. Of course I am not that dumb. I know the difference between the viking ship and a cruise ship. :P
Cheers B)
