The Ringo Kid August 22nd, 2005, 05:38 PM Hi Sssssssssssssssstumpy. Good Snake. (http://www.pitt.edu/~mcs2/herp/Snake.pics/indigo.jpg) Very bad snake. (http://www.pitt.edu/~mcs2/herp/Snake.pics/Micruoides_euryzanthus.jpg) Another good snake (http://www.pitt.edu/~mcs2/herp/Lg_nigra.html) Another nasty fellow to stay away from (http://www.pitt.edu/~mcs2/herp/snake.pics/copperhead.gif) Still a nastier snake to shy away from: The Eastern Diamondback Rattler. (http://www.pitt.edu/~mcs2/herp/snake.pics/Crotalus_adamanteus.jpg) The aboves Next of Kin. (http://www.pitt.edu/~mcs2/herp/snake.pics/wdiamond.jpg) Another relative to the above 2 snakes. (http://www.pitt.edu/~mcs2/herp/snake.pics/Crotalus_Molossus.jpg) But the ugliest of all IMO is: Another enemy. (http://www.pitt.edu/~mcs2/herp/python.html) Another VERY large snake pic. Huge snake. (http://www.pitt.edu/~mcs2/herp/snake.pics/burmese.jpg) ;) I aint no fan of snakes either. :fear2: Ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss ssssssssssss. :D ethanedwards August 22nd, 2005, 06:35 PM Hi Carl, Those Photos were fascinating. Best Wishes, Keith chester7777 August 22nd, 2005, 11:11 PM Whoa, Carl!! What a bunch of sssssssnake linksssssssss! Chester :newyear: WARNING!!</span> Gross snake story below!!! :fear: (If you don't want to read it, hit your "Back" button NOW!!) :fear2: :fear: :fear2: :fear: I remember a story going around about 15 years ago at work, about a young couple with a little baby, living in a condominium complex. A python in the adjoining unit had gone down the toilet and into the sewer system, and then came out in the couple's toilet while everyone was asleep. It went into the baby's room and killed the baby and then ate it. When the parents woke up the next morning, they found the snake in the crib, with a bulge in its body. I tried to find this story on the Internet to tie a link to it, but couldn't find it. Hey, I <span style=\'color:red\'>warned you! ethanedwards August 23rd, 2005, 04:17 AM Hi Chester, Well I must admit, that must be the worst story I've ever woken up to!! We were in a jeep. On the way back to the base we ran over a pretty good-sized snake in the road. That damned idiot mail clerk wanted to stop, get the snake and take it back to show everybody. I threatened to shoot him if he stopped. I took 30 days leave after I got back. My folks lived out in the country and my step-dad had a shower rigged up in what we called the "wash-house", which was a tall shed with a big gravity-fed water tank on top. About a week after I got home, I was out there taking a shower one afternoon. I happened to look down in a corner and there was the biggest durned bullsnake I ever saw. Well, naturally I ran out of the wash-house buck naked (thank goodness we lived in the country  ), went into the house and got a .22 pistol. I must have shot that snake about 4 or 5 times and never did kill him, though I wounded him enough that he didn't crawl away. Mike smokey September 4th, 2007, 08:28 AM i know you guys will think this is a tall tale but it isnt. when i was younger and living in north queensland, we lived on a pineapple farm we had a mouse plague followed by a snake plague. one morning before my sister and i had even left for school we had about 5 dead snakes hanging of the side of the box trailer, when we came home that afternoon three sides where filled with dead snakes mostly red bellies but others as well. as children when we played outside we had to watch each others backs for snakes coming out of the paddock and from under the house. one night i was sent to have my shower and a red belly snake had crawled in under the back door and was slithering up into our room, called mum who sent the cat in, cat chased it out of the room and behind some packing crates (for the pineapples), dogs where called in but saw that it was the cats and walked away. while this was happening dad was out buying milk, when he got home cat still had the snake cornered, dad moved a crate the snake raised its head to strike and dad lopped its head off with the cane knife (this was used all the time and its a sugar cane cutting knife). he carried it outside and placed it on the trailer side. i could go on about all of the times we had snakes get into the car wheel well, engine and such but i think you get the drift on how it was durning this plague time. cheers smokey arthurarnell September 4th, 2007, 12:39 PM Hi Glad we haven't got em anywhere Regards Arthur SXViper September 4th, 2007, 12:47 PM My wife hate snakes and my son he loves reading about them. Unable to see the snake clearly, he bent down to take hold of it and throw it out of the way before the dog spied it and got all excited. That's when the snake bit him. He's had a thing for snakes ever since he was a kid. Several years ago he had a Burmese python for a pet????? During the mid-Seventies, I was stationed at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. I took both boys camping in the Gila Wilderness area of western NM. One evening after I had crawled into my sleeping bag, there arose a big outcry from my older son. It turned out that the younger one (who was then about 11 years old) had caught a snake (without our knowledge) and placed it into his brother's sleeping bag. My oldest son feels about snakes the same way I do so he wasn't real happy to find one in his sleeping bag. As a young kid, I was curious and got off my bike. That is the last memory I had until I woke up in the hospital three days later with a bandage on my ankle and experiencing some pain. I didn't know what was happening until my parents explained to me that I was bit by a rattlesnake. What saved my life is the fact that I did pass out so my blood would slow down so the poison would stay away from my heart, and that someone found me in the woods pretty quick. I don't like snakes nor do I touch them. I am a little better about them now, but prefer to stay away from them and they from me. I have killed some and removed some from places I needed to, but I don't relate to them. Cheers  Hondo chester7777 February 14th, 2009, 11:57 AM So can you eat those things Mrs. C.? A claw that big has to have some meat in it. Not that I consider Wikipedia to be an impeccable source, but it was the only place I could find that even mentioned the word recipe. All other references were recipes that included crab and coconut, but not coconut crab. Anyway, here's what they have to say - From Wikipedia: Different islands also have a variety of recipes, as for example coconut crab cooked in coconut milk. While the coconut crab itself is not innately poisonous, it may become so depending on its diet, and cases of coconut crab poisoning have occurred. It is believed that the poison comes from plant toxins, which would explain why some animals are poisonous and others not. Reputedly[citation needed] this poison is considered an aphrodisiac, similar to the highly poisonous pufferfish eaten in Japan. However, coconut crabs are not a commercially significant species and are usually not sold. As a child of around 5, I was riding my bike in the woods until I heard a sound. You were certainly blessed with the best of circumstances in the worst of circumstances (and ultimately we were blessed, too!). I guess I can see why you would have an adverse feeling towards snakes! Mrs. C :angel1: chester7777 February 20th, 2009, 01:10 AM OK, I got references to both of the following in separate emails on the same day, and I IMMEDIATELY thought of this thread. The first is a PowerPoint presentation entitled Snake vs Kangaroo (http://www.slideshare.net/kanchanap64/snakevskangaroopps). It can be opened to full screen for the 'full' effect :fear2:. The second had this text to explain what was happening - ELECTRIC FENCE Seems a sheep farmer was puzzled about the disappearance of some sheep on his farm. After a few weeks the farmer Decided to put up an electric fence. About a week later, this is what he found! 2278 Now, I know we've all heard of people being eaten by snakes and I bet most of us have said, 'If a snake tried to eat me, I'd blah, blah, blah.........., and get away.' Well, this is a Python and they're extremely aggressive and have a few teeth that they use to hold their prey while they wrap around them and then constrict. Could you get away if this one bit you and held on with it's 'few teeth?' 2279 (Note: The wires are 10 inches apart). I repeat - :fear2:!!!!! (I don't know why the pictures don't appear, but you can click on the links to see them. Snopes indicates the story is true, and took place in South Africa . . . thank goodness it's not anywhere around here!). Chester :newyear: ethanedwards February 20th, 2009, 03:19 AM Jim, I concur. I put up a stand in a nice place where several game trails cross; but because of some obstacles (see photos below) that I encountered getting to my stand last Saturday, I've decided to forego any more attempts at bagging a trophy deer this year... So, if anybody wants my deer stand for the rest of the year, it's open to any one who would like to take a stab at it. My heart can't take another day like last Saturday. 2458 2459 2460 Anybody up for some deer hunting??
