Just watched The Lucy Show with John Wayne where he is supposed to be on the set of the War Wagon, and was again reminded that he had no problems poking fun at himself. The scene in the Bar where he says he was taking a pause for dramatic effect is hilarious to watch as he exaggerates his movements and facial expressions to point of a classic comedy routine. Too funny. I guess he did have a good sense of comedy.

I really enjoyed that episode,
and it was indeed good fun
Although it was supposed to be on the War Wagon set,
it doesn't stand up when you watch the film.
The set and the actors all being different!!

That was Duke's stunt double, Chuck Roberson that was supposedly trying to stab him with the knife, and Lucy ran up and slapped Roberson. I think he was in the War Wagon too. I think he was with Bruce Dern when they were shot by Kirk Douglas and Wayne. But I could be wrong. It's been awhile since I watched that movie.

It was indeed Chuck and Bruce Dern who thought they were
man enough to take on Duke, and it happened int the street.
The saloon and actors in it, staged for the Lucy Show.
Although Chuck was in the saloon scene, the character played by
Bruce Cabot, was played by another.
My episode, came as part of a set of three,
the other two, involved Tennessee Ernie Ford and Don Rickles.
They were introduced by Milton Berle,
and included a trailer
for Lucy's film, The Long, Long Trailer'
I thought Lucille Ball was brilliant, and you
can clearly tell, that she was one of Duke's favourite people,

I had to buy a 5DVD box to get the one episode with John Wayne.All the episodes on the box are brill(always loved Lucy!) but the one with Wayne is the best.I had never seen it before(if I did I forgot) and I died from laughing.Took the DVD to my parents for them to watch and I can't remember the last time my dad laughed so loud.I can't pick a fave scene from that episode but maybe it has to be Lucy when her boss is dictating(is that the correct english word???) that letter and she goes like "John Waaaayyyyyne,daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa(that's what I make out she says) excactly my reaction LOL :P

Strangely, I was able to buy my LUCY VHS, from
Blockbuster, whilst holidaying in the States,
I am glad you and your parents enjoyed it, is is truly,
one hilarious episode.

and as Kevin said, Duke is featured almost throughout.

It is well worth having.

If you purchase the movie His Private Secretary, you will get a bonus of Lucy and John Wayne. Yes this is promoting his War Wagon movie. The date of the episode is (11-21-66). That show is 26 minutes long. I liked it alright, but liked the I Love Lucy episode with John Wayne better.

Mike, I think it's a JWFS special, and it would be on VHS.
They were still showing it in their last newsletter.

The VHS I have, I bought in the States, a few years ago!
It was part of a three episode, The Lucy Show special edition!

I bought the Lucy show with John Wayne at Universal orlando some years ago. Its the one where she steals his hand and footprints, it wasn't expensive and i had wanted it for some years. The other one on the set of Rio Lobo like many others I purchased from the John Wayne Appreciation Society.

Both are worth the money.

It was Rio Lobo, that was the setting for Shootout at Rio Lobo,

one of the Docs we've reviewed in Duke's Documentaries.

Synopsis

In the conclusion of a two-part story set in Hollywood,
Ricky (Desi Arnaz) has managed to mollify the management
of Grauman's Chinese Theater after Lucy (Lucille Ball)
had made off with the cement slab containing the footprints of John Wayne.
The actor himself finds the whole affair so amusing that he agrees
to plant his feet in a fresh mixture of cement right in the
Ricardos' suite at the Beverly Palms Hotel.
Alas, Lucy assumes that the footprints are forgeries and wipes them clean
-- forcing her to use a clever subterfuge (namely, disguising herself as a male masseur!)

Just got done watching it... I recorded it and will start making a TV collection I suppose. I can get up to 8 hours of these on a DVD if I have to as short as they are especially minus the commercials. I'd offer them but they are protected too.
