Nothing on UK tv in remembrance. So I watched my own The Searchers. My favourite.

I've watched Sands of Iwo Jima today on AMC (American Moive Classics). It was a great tribute to our holiday in the states (Memorial Day) as well as his birthday (what a great combination). Anyway, no other plans to see anything else, but you can't beat Sands.

Well, I watched the marathon on the Western channel today since midnight (also taped a few of the earlier ones that I don't already have). I fell asleep so I missed a few early in the morning, then my mom took over the TV at 10.
Also watched one on TCM.
Anyway, I'm tired so I'm starting to ramble. Here's the ones I saw:
Dakota
Randy Rides Alone
The Range Feud
True Grit
They Were Expendable
El Dorado
last part of The Train Robbers
first half of The Undefeated
Riders of Destiny
War of the Wildcats
Think that was all the ones I caught today.

Well, this is a little belated, but while we were on vacation, we were able to catch The Fighting Seabees on AMC, at our hotel.
It sounds like we could have seen John Wayne die twice on his birthday if we had caught The Sands of Iwo Jima that day.

Saw both of them as well.
I haven't seen The Fighting Seabees in a long time. I forgot how the movie went, and he was actually in New York City for a part of the movie. Loved to see William Frawley in it as well.
Amazing Sands of Iwo Jima closely resembleing Saving Private Ryan.

Hondo,
I don't personally see too many parrallels between Sands of Iwo Jima and Saving Private Ryan. Could you expound on this for me?
Thanks.

My views of the similar parts of the movies have to do with the beach scene. In Ryan, it was very graphic, but in Sands, the scenes were similar with the exception of the graphic parts. What I mean is that it showed the tradegy of the war. With Sands, we get the image of activity before the beach scene, the training, the battles, the relationships, and personal problems. In Ryan, after the beach, we see more of missions, relationships, tradegy, and battles.
I saw the two movies back to back. Very long to say the least.
I know that they were located completely half way around the world. And after careful reflection of the location, I can see what you are talking about. It didn't dawn on me about that until just now. After careful thought, I am misaken about that, just because of geography. Seeing them back to back was great.
I won't do it again, because it was very long.
