Howdy,

Just wanted to officially announce a few new features to the JWMB.

We now have a Gallery (http://www.dukewayne.com/vbimghost.php)which is now ready for you to use, and enjoy! I have had the gallery section in the works for sometime now but I had to work through a few technical problems. Now I 'believe' the technical issues are fixed (at least the gallery worked for me in my beta testings). Please use it and let me know if it gives you any errors. There is a direct link to the new gallery at the top of the page next to the chat link. We may also add links in other areas of the site.

O and yes I'm looking for suggestions on how to organize the Gallery. I created the "Young Duke" just for placement. Please provide your input on just how you would like to see the photo gallery organized.

Well, we posted a couple of photos from when I went to the John Wayne Celebrity Rodeo down in Abilene, Texas last year, just to try out the new gallery.

I think we need a Members category and/or a Miscellaneous category, as I'm not sure my ugly mug qualifies as a Duke photo, but I knew for sure I didn't qualify for Young Duke  .

I pity that poor bull . . . :fear2: .

Great new feature, Kevin!! Keep 'em coming!

Alright, I failed to turn on the individual gallery area for each member. Just visit the gallery section at http://www.dukewayne.com/index.php?act=gal and click on the "My Gallery Options" link on the left. Then you'll need to click the "Enable Gallery" button in your gallery control panel, then your all set up! Now just create your own gallery categories and place your photos there. Your gallery will be listed on the Members gallery page for all to find.

You can also manage your personal gallery from within your control panel. Look for the link that says "My Gallery Options" in the menu.

A few more tweaks I've made to the site -

- Attachments are now allowed in all threads. This means you can add photos, etc. in with your post.

- New avatar section added to the gallery section. This will allow you to easily add and change your avatar image whenever you want, and this will help us avoid the broken images we sometimes see when members link to images that are off site.

Thx, for the concern.

Posters of photos should include the photographers name when known. But some photos are considered to be in the 'public domain' but if anyone finds their photo(s) here, and doesn't want it posted can make a request in accordance to the requirements of Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. Section 12 (DCMA) And such images will be removed.

Alrighty, we now have a new feature called the Google Member Map system. This is where members (who want too) can pin thier location on the map anywhere in the world!!

Man, this thing makes the world look small, and lets us all see your approx. location. Remember no street address is posted on the maps or on the site, it just uses the Latitude-Longitude Coords for your location. So your not giving out directions to your home, your just giving your general location.

There is a new link at the top of the forum, just click the Member Map link to check it out.

Hi Kevin,

Hope you are well?

I seem to have a technical prob in My Gallery,

Although it is enabled,
I can submit images,,and view the Top 10 lists,
but it won't let me view, or search other galleries, highlighted below,

Gallery Member Options
My Gallery Options
· View My Gallery
· Search Gallery
· Submit Image
· Top 10 Lists

· Member Galleries Home
· Manage Your Gallery Categories
· View My Gallery

and it shows this message, although
I am obviously logged in!!

Error
You are not permitted to view this section of the gallery.

If you are not logged in, please do so.

thanks,

Kevin

Kevin sure is a whiz at solving all the different problems that arise here, it will be interesting to see what he can do.

At times we felt a little lost in the Photo Gallery ourselves (we even wrote down the different categories to keep track of which was which  ).

We see that Kevin has added some new smilies to the collection (we saw the first one in his St. Patrick's day post - :holiday_irish: ), but here are some others -

:hyper:, :photo:, :smoke:, (sport_box doesn't seem to work). :tongue1:, :tooth:, and :walkman:.

I think we need one that is crying. Is that a possibility, Kevin??

I don't know if any of you have noticed, but if you scroll down to the bottom of the message board on the main page (that shows all the forums at a glance), there is an updated Stats section, with some very interesting statistics.

Click http://www.dukewayne.com/forums.php and go to the very bottom to see it.

Thanks, Kevin, for that little addition!

I took a look at these statisitics, they are interesting but to what previous statistics do they correlate to i.e. are posts up by that percetage this year in comparison to last or is it this month in comparison to last month?

Added a new "countdown" feature for use by JWMB members. The feature will add a countdown display in your signature area. You can set the date for the countdown in your control panel under "Edit Options".

Look at my signature to see it in action.

Hey Guys, I'm slowly putting together a wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki) to store Duke related information. You can find this info at http://www.dukewayne.com/wiki/index.php/John_Wayne_Books

If anyone would like to help out in anyway then let me know. There is alot of very useful information in the forum that I feel needs to be pulled out and placed in an area the is less crowded, so that's why I've installed the DukeWiki.
Kevin,

Can you give us a little more information about the DukeWiki, and how it works?

I've noticed it on the Quick Links list.

Thanks!

Thanks for bringing this to the top, Mrs. C. I hadn't seen it before. Pretty cool, having this info at the ready. The list of books comdensed into a list without all the posts in between makes searching easier. Thanks for the hard work, Kevin!

The wiki we have is very similar to the big general wiki site. A wiki is a collaborative website which can be directly edited by anyone with access to it. At this point the only ones that can edit the wiki is the mods.

My thought was to use the wiki to collect all relevant info found in our forum and then place it in this one place. It would place all this info at our finger tips for easy access. This area could be a great place to move the movie listings and costar listing to.

The wiki login shares the same login that the forum does, which is handy.

Hello Kevin,

Unless I am a Mod and didn't know it  , I think anyone can edit it at this time. I noticed a spelling error in the Books made into movies list (They Were Expendable had Expandable instead) and I corrected it. I hope you don't mind. Just thought I'd bring this to your attention. I think the Wiki is a GREAT idea!

oops, sorry I meant members, which is why the login tie in between the forum and the wiki is important. Of course anyone found 'abusing' the the wiki by trashing it will be banned completely from the site. :glare: Not that anyone here would.

Just added a new "Related Topic" notification feature which will display just under the Title: box when you go to start a new topic. Check the attached screen shots for a visual.

Once you finish typing the title for your new post the related topic box will appear showing you other existing topics that relate to your title. This may help cut down on some duplicate posts.

Hey ya'll,

I've been adding features again..... This time I've added a "Who's Chatting" box on the home page. Look down the left side under the "Online Users" box.

I have other new features coming soon, and I'll post them later.

Cheers!

Take JWMB with you, anywhere!!

You now can navigate the JWMB easier from your mobile phone/PDA or other wireless device without all the fancy graphics. With mobile phones/PDA you have a small screen so why crowd that screen with all the graphics, that's why I've added a mobile version of DukeWayne.com. Now you can easily access most all functions of the site via your mobile device, so your only finger tips away from your favorite John Wayne site!

All you have to do is enter dukewayne.com into your cell phone or PDA browser and the rest is done automatically. Please be aware that you may incur additional fees from your mobile phone provider so check with your carrier before you use your cell phone to access the site. I use Verizon and my current plan only charges me air time when I access web related sites. Some plans might charge you for data used instead of airtime so be sure to check with your provider.

Added the ability for members to choose theme styles for the site. Just look down at the bottom left of any page to see the drop down menu. Use that drop down menu to choose between the 3 themes available.

Just a note, I will only focus on the functionality of the CrastelFluid theme since it's the main default theme for our community. It's very time consuming to go through all available theme to make sure and correct every theme when new features are added to the site. So some site features will not be available in all themes.

New feature added that will allow members to PM other members without having to leave the page.

PM POPUP BOX

An example of this would be if where reading a thread and wanted to quickly send a PM to someone that posted, you would simply click the send a private message link and the PM box should appear. When you have sent the pm simply X out of the window and keep reading.

The Mrs. posted that, and I think she was referring to the guy at the bottom, reading a newspaper and drinking a cup of coffee.

Although, in this day and age, it should be someone looking at a computer, and drinking a cup of coffee !
