I would appreciate any comments. thank you Hondo Duke Lane June 4th, 2003, 11:23 PM wileys, Welcome to the John Wayne Board. This is a great place to meet many who have a passion for the Duke. And I just wanted to personally welcome you. :) You stumped me on that one. I did a power search on IMDb, and they had only (1) one listing for location shooting for San Jaun River, Utah. And it didn't list any of Duke's movies. Instead it listed Smoke Signal (1955). I am afraid that I am not familar with that movie, and Duke was not in that movie. Are you sure about Duke being in a movie that shot scenes in San Jaun River, Utah? It is possible that IMDb missed it. I assume that it was a western. Do you recall if it was in color or not, who might have starred with Duke? Any information would help and maybe we can find it. Cheers, Hondo B) AEC23 June 4th, 2003, 11:30 PM The San Juan runs right at the edge of Monument Valley, so maybe some of the water scenes from movies shot at that location might be the San Juan. Just a thought. :) Hondo Duke Lane June 4th, 2003, 11:41 PM AEC23, Thanks for that information on San Jaun River. Didn't know that. Well, according my list of movies shot at Monument Valley, there were (6) six. The movies were Stagecoach, Fort Apache, Three Godfathers, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, Rio Grande, and The Searchers. I'll bet it was The Searchers you are talking about wileys. Whatcha think? Hondo B) itdo June 5th, 2003, 12:52 AM I don't recall WHERE I read it, but the river crossings of The Searchers and Yellow Ribbon were filmed at the San Juan. Note the characteristic stone in background in the scene where Ethan and the Rangers defend one side of the river. wileys June 5th, 2003, 11:24 PM Thanks everyone for the ideas. I really don't know any of the information about the movie. My geography teacher said it was the best one and couldn't remember the title. All he really said about it was that the Duke throws something into the river.....I am not really sure about anything else. itdo June 6th, 2003, 03:47 AM There is a new book out: So you wanna see Cowboy Stuff? is its title, if I remember correctly. It lists a couple hundred locations used in Westerns. Haven't bought it right away - has anyone read it yet? You'd probably find your answers about the San Juan there. Robbie June 6th, 2003, 06:49 PM Hi Wiey Duke throws a gun into the water in El Dorado maybe this is the movie although I am unsure as to the movies shooting location. B) wileys June 7th, 2003, 12:55 AM Robbie thanks so much...I bet that is the one. I am going to rent it right now so we'll see. wileys June 7th, 2003, 01:42 PM Well El Dorado wasn't the one. If anyone knows of any John Wayne movies filmed at the goosenecks of the San Juan River, please let me know. Thanks :) Robbie June 7th, 2003, 02:20 PM Yo Wiley sorry El Dorado wasnt the answer, you mentioned it was one of Dukes best films well it could be the searchers as he throws a stone into a river or Red River as he is fighting an Indian and they both fall into the river. I know that the big fight scene in the sons of katie elder was filmed in the icy water of the rio chico river. Hope some of this information helps. B) Happylobster June 7th, 2003, 03:46 PM Hi everyone. What a great site! My husband and I are long time fans of the Duke and our 40th anniversary is comming up this month. I want to surprize my guy with a trip to revisit some of the places JW loved best up here in the Northwest. We are planning a trip to Seattle anyway, so I thought I remembered that he hung out in that area at one time. Well, any help would be greatly appreciated.
