Hi,
Not much to shout about here!!
All in all, a very mediocre film, and
another routine assisgnment for Duke.
This was a bit of a come-down after his previous films.
However Ward Bond was great as "Goon"
playing a simple minded nut, he was very convincing.
Alas, this was a poor, and contrived film,

This film was apparently released under the title Citadel of Crime in the UK in 1941.

In looking over our list of John Wayne movies, it appears we don't own it . . . yet :D .

Hi Jim,
Strangely, the recent release over here, was as

WHEEL OF FORTUNE

Interesting film, only to see Ward as a baddie in this one too!!

It looks like if we want this film, we will have to get it from Amazon - Canada (http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/6300209261/imdbca-20/702-3380353-9489606), and it is only available in VHS.

Two posters for this film, the second one a 1953 re-issue.

I thought Ward Bond played a convinceing half wit and Ms Dee was not hard to watch.

Looks like this one is no longer available on Amazon. It's the only film of the Duke's from the 1940s that I am still missing. I should have bought it back when it was last released in 1998. I have yet to see the film either.
