Has anyone purchased the Red River Soundtrack CD?
It a digital score based on the 1948 Original Soundtrack score by Moscow Symphony Orchestra.
Any opinions?
Mike

Hi
I bought it a couple of years ago and like it very much, It certainly gives the range and sweep of the spectacle, especially when you realise that the choir are not English speaking. It tends to get slightly repetitive but then it must be realised that it is a film track.
In general if I was scoring it i'd give it 6-7 out of 10, but then Red River is one of my favourite films.

Thanks Arthur
I have got a copy coming to me now so yet another for the soundtrack collection
It is nice to see a few JW soundtrack CD are beginning to see the light of day.
The new releases The Green Berets, Big Jake, Brannigan and Mc Q are excellent.
Is Rio Lobo worth getting? I see The Searchers is available but seems quite expensive.
Red River is one of my favourites too.

Hi Mike
Rio Lobo's not bad, the best part of it is that it is supposed to be limited edition so theoretically it will one become unavailable one day and be worth something.
The Searchers is quite good and the cover notes are very good I think it is a special edition.
If you go to one of the earlier threads we discussed John Wayne's music and I think we listed quite a few of the CD's available.
I also have among my collection The Undefeated and Hatari.

Hi Arthur
I have obtained The Undefeated CD as well. Also, managed to pick up The Cowboys and The Quiet Man via retail outlets.
Hondo, The Green Berets. Mc Q, Brannigan, Undefeated and Rio Lobo CDs are currently available from 2 sellers on Ebay. One is based in US and one is based in Germany. There was another seller who was based in the New York area but seems to disappeared at present.
Both the sellers are retailers who are selling CDs on ebay to reach a bigger market. There are links to their websites on their ebay ads.
The best way to find them is to type John Wayne CD as your search when in ebay.
The CDs listed above are well made and great quality with good cover notes.
They claim to be limited to 3000 issues and the numbers I have are all around the 1300-1400 mark.
I have also seen a version of Stagecoach for sale although it is not an OST recording and it is around the $9- $10 price.

I have a number of the John Wayne CDs mentioned in this thread. My favortive would have to be Red River. As Arthur mentioned, it's slightly repetitive, but well worth owning.

Hello Falc
My favourite would be Big Jake and Brannigan. A full track of True Grit would be nice but only the selection with Elmer Bernstein and Utah Orchestra is available.
The True Grit OST that is available is a major disappointment as it is a souped up/ jazzed version of all tracks. I like jazz but not HERE.
I wasnt certain on Red River at first but it does grow on you. after awhile.
Funny the Russians singing on a John Wayne soundtrack CD. How tiems have changed!!! :D
Best
Mike
