Hi,
I have to be fair, and say, I am biased towards, these Lone Star films.
I enjoy all of them, for all their whirlwind, few days, low budget filming,
they are a joy, and fun to watch.

In this Lone Star oater, Duke plays another John, Tobin, this time,
on the trail of a criminal called Zanti, played by the perennial MONOGRAM regular Earl Dwire,
who was a friend of the producer Paul Malvern, so he was in nearly all of them.
Duke was getting more and more confident, and mature, as the series progressed.
In this one, there is a great scene, where in the course of events,
he rides a piece of wood, down a storm drain!!
Once again Duke was singing, well dubbed!! with a guitar!!!
It seemed to take the producer a long time, before the penny dropped,
and this was....well!!! not such a good idea.

Author: TEXICAN-2 from Benbrook, Texas, from IMdb
John's parents are killed by a renegade bandit, played to the hilt by perennial bad guy, Earl Dwire. Dwire injures Hayes, who joins with John to bring him and his gang to justice.

The local sheriff, Jack Rockwell, is convinced that John's one of the gang, and when Hayes is shot, arrests John for the shooting.

There are the usual chases, gun battles, and fights that hallmark these "B" Westerns.*
There is one extended walking scene where you can see the Duke perfecting his special walk that became a trademark.

An excellent stunt has John riding a log down a large drainage ditch. Pretty amazing, and not without danger to the actor.

However, value for money, goof fights and stunts,
and with Gabby on board, you couldn't go wrong
Rating 6/10

Here's a poster, and a 1939 re-issue. I see that Gabby Hayes is prominent on the 1939 version.

Another Lone Star movie directed by Robert Bradbury. Fast paced at 50 minutes and with the benefit of Gabby Hayes in the cast. There is also quite a bit of stuntwork which I suspect is Yakima Cannutt. Print on 22nd Century DVD varies in quality in places and is generally a bit soft compared to other releases I have seen. Not a bad movie and worth watching.

Watched this movie today, I think my copy was a little bit " ropey " in parts and the sound was a bit off, but it was watchable...

Interesting gun trick with the string!!! A young Duke looking well....young, eager and willing !!! Slowly making my way through more of these Lone Star movies....marks out of ten..... six.
