I was just wondering where you all think Gregory Peck rates with other old western actors.
I look forward to your thoughts.

I look forward to your thoughts. Northerner. B) itdo June 9th, 2003, 04:21 AM I think whenever Peck rode westward, he was quite good, especially in Bravados and Duel in the Sun. His appearence in How the West Was Won was one of the highlights of the film. The best he did was the subtle The Gunfighter, an unusual western (I once read that Columbia-chief Harry Cohn hoped to lure John Wayne back to the studio with that script). But then, when I think of westerns, Peck isn't the first name that comes to my mind, rather it's the group of Wayne, Cooper, Stewart. itdo June 9th, 2003, 06:59 AM Right after I wrote my answer to this topic, I went back reading "Memo from Darryl F. Zanuck", and guess what: There Zanuck talks at length about Peck's The Gunfighter, and why this masterpiece did only half as good as Peck's "Yellow Sky" at the box-office. Zanuck blames himself to have let director Henry King get away with putting a mustache on Peck - which in the sneak previews got terrible quotes from the ladies in the audience (they liked their Peck clean-shaven). Zanuck would have given "25000 dollars of his own money to shave off that mustache. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is: Zanuck was at Twentieth Century Fox, so it wasn't the Gunfighter with which Harry Cohn tried to get Duke to Columbia. But he did have a property which he believed might interest Wayne (who kept saying No to Cohn because he treated him badly when he was still in B-movies), and I think it was a western. REASR June 9th, 2003, 10:42 PM Peck wasn't all that bad. McKenna's Gold , Savage Moon ,Billy Two Hats ......ehhhh The Bravados probably the best. All and all not that bad Rick Hondo Duke Lane June 26th, 2003, 06:04 PM I've seen only one western from Peck. That was "Duel in the Sun." That movie was really good, and Peck is an excellent actor in dramic movies.
