Hi,
This was the 1st, in the 6 picture Universal deal,
and it was not a happy time ,as the films were mediocre,
but things were about to change, because, just after
Duke returned to Republic, for The Three Mequiteers,
and thereafter Stagecoach.
Duke is Boatswain Bob Randall, looking for seal poachers and his kidnapped sweetheart.
Ironically in this film Duke talks to Mabel the seal, in a very similar way,
he was to talk, 'Baby' later in Blood Alley (1955)
The action films, were entertaining, but were cheaply made, and proved to be
disappointing at the box office.
They could not compete, with pictures that were now, receiving bigger budgets.
Rating 4/10

Hi Keith

Are these six movies that he made for Universal available today on VHS/DVD or are they lost?

Robbie,
Strange as it may be, these six films do not seem
to be on general release!! Well at least in the UK!

4 of them,
The Sea Spoilers, Conflict,
I Cover the War and Idol of the Crowds

are available as special John Wayne Film Society releases.

Califonia Straight Ahead I taped off TV

but no appearance yet of

Adventure's End!

The first poster is the same as you see up in Keith's introductory post, maybe with a little more color. The second one is a 1948 re-issue.
