Hi,
I have to be fair, and say, I am biased towards, these Lone Star films.
I enjoy all of them, for all their whirlwind, few days, low budget filming,
they are a joy, and fun to watch.

Duke, as John Higgins, thought he'd killed his best friend,
turns in his Sheriffs badge, and becomes a prospector.
It's strange seeing Duke in this one, looking scruffy, with a beard, and down and out.
Duke puts in a good turn, in this above average oater.
His love interest is Lucille Brown, who did a couple with Duke.
Gabby Hayes, was brilliant as ever.
There is a rare appearance of Buffalo Bill Jr.
Bill had grown up in Wyoming, and was an expert at riding bucking horse.
He had a knack for doing the crouper mount, where he vaulted over the
horses rear, turned, and rode backwards in the saddle.
Yakima Canutt said,
That was a good gag, when you're supposed to be making a getaway, out of town.

This entry in Wayne's series of Lone Star westerns that he made for Monogram in the 30's is a cut above the average.
It has a good plotline and plenty of action crammed into its 51 minute running time.
In the early part of the film we see Wayne depart from his usual clean-cut hero image when he thinks that he has killed his best friend.
He grows a beard and has a generally unkempt appearance almost foreshadowing a similar appearance at the end of "Three Godfathers" (1948).
The film is also enhanced by the appearance of such "B" western stalwarts as LeRoy Mason as the villain and a pre-Gabby George Hayes as the sheriff. There is also an unusually large cast of extras in the "Indians to the rescue" sequence which does not appear to be stock footage. The stunt work (likely coordinated by Yakima Canutt) is also superb.
Not a bad way to spend an hour.

I agree entirely, another, sturdy effort by the Duke,
Rating 6/10

Hi Keith,
I enjoy your comments. This one is one of my favorite from the Lone Star movies, but to say truth I like all that I had a chance to watch.
Regards,
Senta

I remember posting in the past about how great it would be to have a link to the movie under each title in the Duke Movies forum. Looks like that is now a realistic possibility, especially for some of the older titles.

Thanks for the links, ej!
