Mini-Biography

From All Movie Guide: The son of actor John Wayne, Patrick Wayne made his earliest film appearances at 14,
playing bits in The Quiet Man (1953) and The Sun Shines Bright (1953), both directed by "the Duke"'s mentor John Ford.
The younger Wayne's first real film role was in Ford's The Long Gray Line (1955); the following year,
as Lieutenant Greenhill, Wayne acted opposite his father in The Searchers (1956). After attending Loyola University,
he was given an opportunity to co-star in The Young Land, a film which neither starred his dad nor was directed by John Ford.
He wasn't bad, but he wasn't ready for stardom just yet, so it was back to supporting parts in The Alamo (1960), Donovan's Reef (1963),
McLintock (1963), Cheyenne Autumn (1965), The Green Berets (1968) and Big Jake (1971).
On his own, Patrick Wayne played leads in the special effects-laden adventures People That Time Forgot (1977) and Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977),
co-starred on the TV series The Rounders (1965) and Shirley (1979), and hosted the syndicated variety weekly The Monte Carlo Show (1980).

Biography by Wikipedia

One of four children born to John Wayne's first wife,
Patrick took his father's stage surname Wayne.
Patrick made his film debut at age 11 in his father's Rio Grande (1950).
He followed that with films directed by family friend and iconic director
John Ford: The Quiet Man (1952),
The Sun Shines Bright (1953), The Long Gray Line (1955),
Mister Roberts (1955),
and The Searchers (1956). Following high school, Patrick attended
Loyola University and graduated in 1961. During this time, he went out on his own to star in his own film
The Young Land (1959). Realizing he was not quite ready to play lead character
he supported his father in The Alamo (1960), Donovan's Reef (1963), McLintock! (also 1963),
and The Green Berets (1968). A few exceptions included a role in Ford's sprawling epic Cheyenne Autumn (1964), a role as James Stewart's son in Shenandoah (1965)
and in An Eye for an Eye (1966).
He also co-starred in the short-lived comedy western series The Rounders (1966).

Following work on his father's Big Jake, Patrick earned recognition in the sci-fi genre.
His career peaked in the late 1970s in the popular matinée fantasy
Sinbad, the Eye of the Tiger (1977), then The People That Time Forgot (1977).
He co-starred as a romantic love interest to Shirley Jones in another brief TV series,
Shirley (1979), and occasionally worked on game shows and syndicated variety series.
He had many appearances on popular TV shows of the 1970s and '80s,
including Fantasy Island (1978), Murder, She Wrote (1984), Charlie's Angels (1976),
and The Love Boat.
Wayne made a cameo appearance in the movie Young Guns as Pat Garrett.
Wayne also served as the host of the 1990 revival of the game show Tic Tac Dough.

In 2003, Patrick became chairman of the John Wayne Cancer Institute.

This bit of trivia, I find fascinating, what do you think,

Was offered the role of Superman in the 1978 film, but declined because of his father's cancer.

The family are locked in a feud, as to the rights of their fathers legacy,
and the situation is constantly changing.
We have a dedicated thread, on this, so click on

Last I heard, he has a magic show and did a performance at the Bohemian Club for the super rich. Unfortunately he didn't take to moves as did his Dad.

For those of you who frequent eBay, you probably noticed movie posters signed by Patrick for sale. Here is a link to the official site that carries those posters.

Most importantly, Patrick is the current Director of the John Wayne Cancer Institute.

Again, from a woman's perspective, Patrick Wayne was a very handsome young man, and played very likeable characters (at least the ones I saw  ). Looking at the picture Keith posted in the orignal post of this thread, I would say he has aged VERY well - still a handsome man!

Here are a few web sites that focus on Patrick Wayne (including one that mentions that bit of trivia that Keith shared . . . ) -

I think one of his most underated roles was in Shenandoah with Jimmy Stewart. Plus it is a very good movie, atleast I thought so.

I agree with you Todd that Shenandoah is a very good movie and that Patrick Wayne did a fine acting job I thought. I sure wish he had made a few more movies through the years.

Just for your information, Patrick Wayne had a birthday on July 15 and turned 70 years of age. Can't believe that he would be that old. If this is a duplicate then I apologize for the repeating post.

I saw Patrick Wayne in a dinner theater production in the late 1980s of "Mr. Roberts" where Patrick played the title role (Henry Fonda's in the movie). As I recall he was quite good. BTW - the one playing the doctor's part in that production was the guy who played the doctor in the "I Dream of Genie" TV series.
