John Wayne is everywhere. I love it when he is mentioned or when his movies appear on tv shows, in other movies, or in songs. I put this topic up to see if any of you have some favorite references that you remember seeing or hearing.

To start it off:

Where Have All the Cowboys Gone (song-"where is my John Wayne")

City Slickers-beginning of the cattle drive the dentist wants to do the "yeehaw" scene from Red River

The Birdcage-Nathan Lane is trying to be more masculine so he imitates John Wayne's walk

I love this topic. It's so much fun. There's another thread that was started that also lists a lot of movie references. It's under "is John Wayne really Luke Skywalker?". Take a look down there at some of the ones listed. I was surprised at how many we've come up with. :D

Hey,

I have a song that uses John Wayne in reference. It's from the movie, "One On One." This is a movie back in the early to mid '70's with Robbie Benson & Anette O'Tool. It was a Seals and Crofts song. Sorry, can't remember the title but will look for it. I know that Duke was alive then, but they did sing about him or a characterist about him. Haven't heard it in a long time, but try to find it.

That song you are refering to Hondo, is just titled "John Wayne". Seals and Crofts sang the song but it was written by Paul Williams. I got the soundtrack to that movie (I loved it as a youngster) Havn't played it in years though. You got me wanting to pull it out and listen again. dukefan1

I like the song about John Wayne and Jezus, and I'm a Cowboy.

Thanks Dukefan1,

Really like that movie myself, and liked the music. I think that Seals and Crofts did the whole soundtrack to that movie.

Buddy Hollys favourite movie was the Searchers and he was so impressed with Dukes performance in this movie that he wrote his his song "that will be the day" after dukes catchphrase in the movie".

I have posted this on another posting but you should see the effects of John Wayne on other countrys. I saw a Japanese comic do John Wayne in Japanese in 1977, it was quiet impressive and funny.
