View Full Version : John Wayne In England - 1951 Story

This story has been passed around our family for some years now, my sisters husbands mother was in Hereford Hospital, just after giving birth.

Before I continue, as improbable that this may sound, she has maintained this story is true for many years, with many doubters.

My brother in law was born end of April 1951, it was a complicated birth which required his mother to stay in hospital for several weeks.

During this time, there was a sick child in the next ward, and one day John Wayne came to visit him.

The strange thing about this story was that he was on a horse, riding it in the hospital to visit the child.

I have done a few searches on the net, and I beleive he filmed the quiet man in Ireland around 1951 so it was feasable he was in the UK around April / May 1951. And he also made the rare breed (about a Hereford Bull) later in his career.

I would be so grateful if anybody can shed any light on this story, it just seems too unlikely to be true.

Many Thanks

Rob

I can't say if the story is true or not but, the act of riding a horse in a hospital would fill the place with all kinds of germs contaminating everything in the immediate areas. IMO--I doubt that he rode a horse into a hospital because of the contamination factor but--he could have visited that child in the next room.

Hi,

Sorry if this comes across as being picky.. but The Rare Breed (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060884/) was James Stewart and Maureen O'Hara, directed by Andrew V McLaglen... No John Wayne...

As for the rest of the story, I don't have any facts for you but I don't see it as either impossible or improbable.

Don't give up hope yet Robhfd. I myself can believe that something like that could have happened. There a a few of our "experts" who haven't chimed in yet so wait to see what they might have to say.

True--quite true. Also, back then people used to show that they had more common sense as well--something that one almost never sees today.
