Araner,

Great collection. You have everything I have (plus more) with the exception of Circus World. It was an alright movie, but he did better. I can only recall seeing it once after I purchased it, so I can say I've seen it, but many years ago. <_<

I would like to inquire about your list that you don't have (nor do I) in the 1946 release of Desert Command. I looked it up on imdb, and saw a listing on it. When I went to the page, it looked like a serial that failed before completion. And I might add that Duke was casted but never appeared (that's what I read). :)

I'm not interested in getting something that Duke was never in, so I questioned his credit for that movie. According to all my books, there is no mentioned of him connected with that title at all, and nothing connected with the internet about it either, that I found (Except from imdb).

My conclusion is that if he never appeared or involved, how can you count that, except being casted? Just a thought for you to not include it on you get list. I bet it will never be released on anything either, since it was never completed or was according to critics a terrible (silly) movie.

Anyway, did you know that Kevin Costner was in The Big Chill? He was casted as the dead guy the friends went to see, but they decided not to use the scene showing Costner, and didn't give him credit. They did pay him, and later the production company did cast him without a screen test in Silverado. :o

Just something to consider.

Cheers

Hondo Duke Lane,

Thanks for the info on Desert Command. I checked my book by Donald Shepard and Robert Slatzer about Duke and found no mention of it. I think I'll take it off the list.

Thanks Again,

Araner

I could be mistaken but I think "Desert Command" was what they named the re-release of "The Three Musketeers". They cut the 12-chapter-serial down to movie-size in the Forties or so, to milk it once more when JW's name on a marquee meant box-office.

My research also indicates Desert Command was andother name for The Three Musketeers, there are other things that are strange or confusing, Helltown was also called Born to the West, A Man Betrayed was also called Wheel of Fortune.

I count 164 movies from all of my research, I have 1201/2, the 1/2 being only six chapters of Hurricane Express.

The other unknown thing is a movie mentioned on page 19 of The Complete Films of John Wayne, which I will refer to as RZ and Z, called Doomed Battalion. Page 19 lists it with Fort Apache, Wake of the Red Witch, 3 Godfathers, Stagecoach, Long Voyage Home, Dark Command and War of the Wildcats as being in theaters all at the same time in 1949, 5 of them re-issues.

I need to do some more research on this movie and will get back to you.

Friends, after Google Searching the "Doomed Battalion" I find it was made in 1932, does not list The Duke in the credits but 1932 may still be inside the window where his is and unbilled extra or could be, with this in mind I e-mailed Universal Studios to see if they could research this and get back to me> I will let you all know.
