View Full Version : Maureen O'hara Forum.
Robbie September 26th, 2006, 08:21 PM Kevin
I have just noticed that there is a new forum within this messagebaord namely 'The Maureen Ohara' forum'. While I am a big fan of this lady and recognise the signifcant role she played in Dukes life, I feel devouting an entire forum to her to be unnecessary for several reasons, namely:
1. I don't feel it will get enough postings to substantiate its existance.
2. It makes the homepage feel quite cluttered and 'too busy'.
3. While her role in Dukes life was important, John Fords role was both greater and more important which raises the question of whether he should have a forum on the board devoted to him or not.
I do appreciate the time and effort that went into its creation I do however feel that is rather unnecessary and will simply end up as a dead duck.
Respectfully
Robbie

ethanedwards September 26th, 2006, 08:44 PM Hi,
I too wondered if anyone would bring up the points Robbie has made.
I noticed the Forum was formed, as led by the moderators.
I had already, reviewed Maureens Biography/Filmography
in 'Pals of the Saddle' , so I thought I'd place it in this new forum,
hopefully kick-starting the new Forum.
However this hasn't been the case, with only a couple of members,
showing any interest!!

I thought that your section in Pals of the Saddle devoted to Maureen Ohara to be ample in the context of a John Wayne messageboard.

ejgreen77 September 26th, 2006, 09:49 PM I'm with you guys on this one. Ethan's "Pals of the Saddle" forum was sufficient coverage for Maureen. The only benefit I can possibly see of doing it this way is that it might make it a little easier for new people to find.
But that could be remedied by putting a Pinned topic in the Newbie Forum telling new folks that if they want to comment about a particular film, actor, or actress to go to the appropriate place in the Movie Review or Pals of the Saddle forums, and post there.

William T Brooks September 26th, 2006, 11:12 PM I disagree, Maureen knew more about The Duke than almost anyone did from the time of their First Film they did Together. They were the Best of Friends and Very Good Pals for over 25 years, and She looked out for Duke until Pat Stacy came along in the early 1970s. :o
If you want to know about Duke, She can tell you all of the Stories because She was there and Just about the Only One that has not Passed on But Dobe Carey, and He is Old and Sick and will not talk much about Duke anymore!!! :fear2:
Bring on the Maureen O'Hara Site!!! :D

Good point and good idea,
We mentioned not long ago,
how we could point Newbies in the right direction.
Nine times out of ten, a Newbie, will start up a thread
about a subject, film, actor etc.
that's been discussed, before.
This would help Newbies, to know where the topic is.
Best Wishes,

Hi Bill,
Do I take it, Maureen is going to join us on the forum as well? Ha Ha!!
Best Wishes
William T Brooks September 27th, 2006, 10:00 AM Keith;
You Might be Right about Maureen, I have been told that She Does looks in once in a while to see what is going on. And with what is going on with the Maureen O'Hara Site that June Beck has, You Never Know what Maureen will do even if She is in Her Mid 80s in age? :)
And we do know that Someone from Batjak looks in on Us also to see whats going on. That would be Patrick or Gretchen Wayne, Mike Wayne's Widow, or someone that works for them, but we will take Them Also! :D

chester7777 September 27th, 2006, 10:35 AM You all make good points, but there is a little more to it.
I think the reason Kevin set it up was that the Maureen O'Hara discussion board associated with June Parker Beck's MO web site was going to close down a few months ago, due to different reasons. Kevin became aware of what was going on, and offered to help, if there was any way he could. It seems they ironed things out a little and it is still up and running. However, the last time I checked, it was closed to any new members. Several of our number are members there, so have the opportunity to mention that this would be a friendly place to come discuss Miss O'Hara, and that new members are welcome here.
I don't want to make the other board sound unfriendly - it's not. It's just that the person who was providing the web space was needing her bandwidth for other uses, and was feeling overwhelmed by it all, so they closed it to any new members, but are leaving it available for current members to continue discussions.
So . . . now you know the rest of the story.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for that, I had read about the problems with the other board, and I can understand, the wish to help out.
Oh well, we'll see what pans out, but if it does close down, perhaps a new,
and completely separate Maureen board needs to be set up?
In the meantime, can what EJ suggested be set up in the Newbies, Pinned section?
Best Wishes
Senta September 27th, 2006, 11:48 AM Hi Chester,
I'm with you on that points. it is good idea to give place for Maureen O'Hara descussions. If it will become popular - it will be great to new something interesting. And it is really interesting to know more about her.
For a pity I haven't read her book, but hope to do it someday.
I like her not only with Duke, but with Errol Flynn for instance in Against All Flags.
Regards,
Vera
Robbie October 1st, 2006, 08:08 PM Hi All.
Some good points regarding the pro's and cons of having a Maureen O'hara forum.
I would just like to say that it is Keith who is keeping the forum alive and without his contributions the forum would be a dead duck and at the moment it has a very limited number of topics and post, and I can forsee in the near future much increased activity within this forum.
I am a fan of Keiths pals of the saddle section and I think this would suffice for any materail relating to O'hara.
I do appreciate the need to pay tribute to her but what about Dukes many other important costars who have all but been forgotten in general namely Hank Worden, Paul Fix, Ben Johnston and Gail Russell etc, they are almost equally deserving of a forum dedicated to themselves.
Robbie
