Hi,

Here's the topic that originally started The Real Seniors Thread.
However, it's now got lost in there, as the thread evolved.

Now that we have so many new members,
thought it would be fun, to get them involved,
and bring it back here.

Here's what we've got so far:-

Hi Harold,

Many thanks for your post.
Ever since we started this over a year ago.
we could only go by the postings we've had,
we have always believed Bill,
to be our oldest member!!

Well, things have changed,
as we now have a 'new' oldest member.

Harold has just posted that he was born in 1926,
making him 80 years old!!
pipping 'young' Bill by 5 years!!!

I hope Harold doesn't mind this distinction,
and I'd like to thank you for joining in.

Harold,

Wow! You rock! A computer-savvy senior for Chilibill to hang out with! My dad will be 79 this year, and he uses the computer, and I am so proud of him (and you guys, too).

I hope I can unofficially be added to your birth year list, since Chester and I share a user name, but I would be your first 1956 entry.

especially, with Harold popping in with his Y.O.B.,
I wonder if someone younger than Bek,
is around?

Wow, 15 to 80 years old!

Just goes to show the universal appeal of John Wayne!

And we know there are actually younger fans, that are not members of the board, but related nonetheless. There's smokey's son Alec and our son Christopher (born in 1996 - Alec might even be the same year).

Hi Jim,

I think that's a good idea,
I'll add a section, called

and add it to the bottom of our list.

Only Full Members qualify for that distinction,
that's why I've made the kids Associate Junior Members.

they will register, their own username,

We see that you joined back in July, shortly after I had emergency surgery, and somehow we missed welcoming you to this great message board! We're glad to see you making your mark here :D .

Just a short note.
The first John Wayne movie I saw was "Stagecoach" in 1939 I was 14 years old.
I might have saw him in the "B" western as Stony Brooke in the 3 Mesquiteers series, but only remember Bob Livingston (http://www.b-westerns.com/living.htm).
There were 51 Three Mesquiteers yarns churned out by Republic from 1936-1943, and Livingston appeared in 29. John Wayne assuming the Brooke role in eight releases for the 1938-39 schedule, But when STAGECOACH (1939) hit the screen, Wayne gained in popularity and moved on to better films. And Livingston returned to the Mesquiteers as Wayne's replacement.

I've always played well with those that older. I can't seem to find too many people who share my interests or politics in my generation. :ohwell: My mother always said I was born to the wrong generation. Everyone on this site seem close, are very respectful, and enjoy each others banter and the common thread of course is Duke Wayne. What a guy and what a great group all of you are. Our new freund von Deutschland apparently speaks/reads English better than he/she writes it. Birthdate was December 18, 1962 in Monchengladbach.

I took a college course in German while stationed there in the early Seventies and just barely passed. It's a hard language to learn.

What threw me more than anything else were the genders der, die, das, which correspond to the English he, she and it. To an English speaker like me, there seemed to be no rhyme or reason for designating an object by gender.

When I'd had a few German beers (much stronger than American brew), I could rattle it off pretty well. Which is why every time my (German-born) wife and I went to see her folks, my mother-in-law always offered me a beer first thing.

Germany is a country that I would love to visit in the future along with the USA, its seems so modern a progressive while having a lot of history surrounding it as well.

I remember at school I did a German course for a semester and if I remember correctly when its 1pm its reads as 12pm and when its 2pm its read as 1pm etc etc, do I remember correctly or not, it has been a long time.

If you go, Rob, confine your travels to the southern portion of the country as its the most scenically beautiful by far, especially southern Bavaria (anything south of Munich). Munich itself is one of my favorite world cities (or at least it was when we last visited 30 years ago). The folks in Munich seem more "laid back" than the Germans further north. I really liked the area down around Berchesgaden (sp), where Hitler had his "Eagle's Nest".

I'm not sure what you're saying with the time - other than Germany being in a different time zone than the UK (an hour later), they tell time just like everyone else. So when it would be, say, 1300 in London, it would be 1400 in Frankfurt. There are 7 hours difference between Texas, where I live, and Dortmund, where my brother-in-law lives.

Although we don't have gender based definite articles and modifiers, we do randomly assign genders to some nouns. As an example, the U.S. is referred to as a female (despite Uncle Sam).

I hope you get that passport in 10 weeks. Our son allowed more than that, and two weeks before he was to leave, he still didn't have it. And two weeks out is the soonest you can start bugging them for it. Early the morning of the two week time limit, he was on the phone. That passport was in his hands one week before he was to leave, but he still had to send it to Washington, DC, to get his visa. What a nail biter that was! It came back from the Ghanian embassy the day before they were to leave!! It cost us a small fortune in overnight charges, both ways!

The big hold-up is due to the new restrictions traveling to Canada and Mexico, requiring a passport. So many had applied for passports they finally had to loosen that a little; folks traveling to those countries at least must have proof of having applied for a passport, along with picture ID, at least for the summer.

I hope yours comes sooner.

They do, believe me they do.

I've stood in line at theaters to see Wayne movies a number of times. Those lines contained everything from gray-headed old geezers through long-haired hippie types to young kids, all patiently waiting to see their favorite movie star. Warmed the cockles of my heart.

hello,
it Is Very Nice To Find A Group Of Older Individuals Who Have Grown Up Watching And Enjoying The Duke. I Was Born On The 30th Of December In 1949 And Have Been A Great John Wayne Fan All My
life. My 30 Year Old Son Feels The Same Way As I Do About Mr. Wayne. My Wife, On The Other Hand, Does Not Understand At All Why We Feel As We Do. We Went Food Shopping Today And I Found One Of My All Time Favorite Movies Of The Duke's. The Movie Is Eldorado And Like Most Of His Movies My Son And I Know Almost All The Diologue. I Want To Say Hi To Everyone Here And It Would Be Nice To Talk To Everyone About The Duke.

I guess by now everyone knows I am another "old coot" born in 1941 in Douglas, AZ! Been a native here all but 10 years of my life when I worked for a national farm publication outa Frankfort, IL and as a cattle consultant outa Weatherford, OK. Retired from work and spend my non-sleeping time working on or racing my 130 mph 1971 Camaro appropriately named "Priceless One Again"! I crashed "Priceless One" in Tucson on April Fool's day, 2000. Been involved in this sport for 50 years this year! Kind of a wierd sport for an old ranch boy to be taking part in I suppose but when I saw a four legged horse, that was work. When I saw 400 horsepower, that was fun! And 700 horses is a real kick in the behind! Glad to be part of the "John Wayne" Clan!:shades_smile:

No. 6? That's the highest I have rated in years in anything! And I didn't have to react to a starting line christmas tree or play head games with anyone to attain that position like I do when I race! It is indeed a privelage and an honor to be among folks who are great fans of the "Duke" and the "Old West" of which I have been a part of for the greater part of my life. And its all because of my friendship with what is apparently a long lost son of the "Duke", Duane, who has helped me greatly with my racing since I retired and he retired in 2007. Both of us worked at the same company. I was controller and he was a fabricator and welder in our shop but we had racing ties and those lead us to real friendship. A year or so before his death and the day after he got out of the hosptial from having a hear attack, he and his wife drove to Las Vegas the day before Thanksgiving to be with me while I raced. That is real friendship!:teeth_smile:

Well I guess I need to add my two cents. They say the stork needed help to deliver me December 26, 1953. But it was a pretty good time to be born. when kids grew up saying yes mam and yes sir. To go out and play kick the can. until it was dark and when Mom said anything it was law. A good swat on the behind was given if do. You drank fresh milk from a glass jar. You didn't worry about frying eggs in grease. and you worked for your money. If needed you piitched in to help pay a bill cause you wanted to. Family was family. Ok I'm done.... Except maybe for adding we had hero's to look up to and to want to be like. Not only our parents. but John Wayne. Jimmy Stewart. or The President. NOW I"M DONE.. Thanks

I also want to mention that I put spaces between the 'decades' just to make it a little easier to see the distribution. At this time, the 1960s is the most represented decade, followed by the '50s, and then the '40s.

As time goes on, we hope to be adding more numbers in the more recent decades.

The Tennesseean
October 2nd, 2009, 12:36 PM
Well...

I was born on Tuesday, August 15, 1961 at 9:43 AM at Fort Sanders Hospital in Knoxville, TN. I grew up in the beautiful hills of East Tennessee in the birthplace of the Manhattan Project - the Atomic City - Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

I literally cannot remember a time when I WASN'T a John Wayne fan. I went to see my first JW movie at the Grove theatre in 1966 (El Dorado), and at my grandfather's 70th birthday bash (he was born in 1900, and was a big mover and shaker in the county and mountain enclave where he lived, so there were a couple hundred folks there), I (all of 9 years old mind you) recited the famous "fill yer hands, yiou son-uv-a-*****, from "True Grit" much to his and the crowd's delight, and my saintly mother's (his daughter) chagrin :uhhuh:

Like several others who've posted before me, I grew up saying yes or no sir or ma'am, holding doors open for ANYONE, and having grace and good manners towards people of ALL races.

Until the day he died in 2002, my father and I shared a mutual love and respect for John Wayne and what his movies represented. I used to buy him VHS editions of anything I could find to make our collections as identical as I could make them. We would also play the latest Nintendo games together with my younger brother and the sons of our older siblings. Now THAT was something to see - a 70 something WWII vet and his 30 something sons beating the pants off of teenage boys at Super Mario Brothers 3!

One thing we ALL loved to do was watch John Wayne movies. It was, and remains to this day, a family tradition.

Thanks for letting me share.....

Add another baby boomer. I was born in 1949 and remember going to see The Searchers at the drive in while wearing my pjs.
My Dad, a veteran and survivor of DDay and the Bulge, was a Duke fan and it was a big deal for the family to dress up for dinner and go see a Wayne film. After coming home from Alamo, my brother and I were excitedly reviewing the gory deaths of the defenders. Dad stopped us cold by quietly saying that it's no fun seeing your friends die. That was the only time he ever alluded to WWII to either of us.

We deal in lead, friend.
