I am an avid reader, and have a vast collection of Bio's and books that were made into Duke movies. For biographys, I would recommend John Wayne: American by Randy Roberts and James Olson as the most informative. As for books that were turned into movies, I highly recommend The Shepherd of the Hills for a great read. The movie is different then the book in many ways, but I couldn't put it down. Now, for all the readers on this board, what books would you recommend to the avid fan? Maybe I will see one I didn't read. Always looking for a new one. dukefan1

I found the book that was writtrn by the Duke wife to be very informative. When she talked about the Dukes hat and gave quite an interesting story on it. When their house caught fire and burnt down when the Duke was off on location for a non-western movie, all she could think about was save the hat! Later the Duke loaned the hat to Sammy Davis Jr. while he was filming "Three Sergeants" with Frank Sanatra and Dean Martin. Well Sanatra and Martin keep pulling the hat down over Sammy Davis's ears and calling him "Little Duke".
After the movie was completed and Sammy Davis returned the hat to the Duke, It was Ruined. The Duke ended throwing it out.
