I'd like to pass on some important information to all of you JW fans, especially the ones who just get started.

There is a John Wayne Fan Club going now for I think 20 years, and the founder, Tim Lilley, is the editor of a great newsletter, The Big Trail.

As I read the posts on this board I realise for the ones that just build an interest in JW, the books and stuff that came out years ago are brandnew.

The best way to get all information you need about:
collectibles, about JW's films (even the ones that are not in the biografies - silent pictures in which he worked and was discovered by his devoted fans), about books - interviews with his co-workers and more -
can really be found in the newsletter of The Big Trail. There are, of course, probably lots of guys familiar with the Big Trail on this board - but obviously there are more who don't have access to all this information.
I have been talking to Tim - who, in addition, is a nice guy as well - and he won't mind if I place his address on this here board, so here it comes:

Tim Lilley
Big Trail Publishing
540 Stanton Avenue
Akron, OH 44301-1554
bigtrailak@aol.com

Let me add some more information: The Big Trail Publishing was helpful in the developing of the JW birthplace over the years, the Stuntman Hall of Fame in Moab, the restoring of the Alamo Director's cut, and so forth. In my book, no one has done more to keep the spirit of JW alive for his fans than Tim Lilley. So if you'd like to write him about the newsletter and stuff, go ahead!

I don't know if as many of you will be aware of this club but its based in England and is excellent in preserving the legacy of John Wayne. It publishes a very decent magazine twice yearly and organsies trips to the cinema to watch Dukes movies on the big screen this usually includes a double feature, I hope you all will be interested. The address is below, just write a letter to it if you want to find out more information.

Just wanted to add this:
It ain't my intention to distract your attention from this board to John Wayne clubs. This is a fine board to swap stories and trade information. I'm sure there must be a lot of clubs out there. In this post, I just wanted to let you know that I know of only one publication which will give you tons of information, and that's The Big Trail, going strong for more than 20 years. The editor, Tim Lilley, is still finding unknown information for all of us and sharing his knowledge. He was the driving force in setting up conventions which were attended by hundreds of fans, co-workers of the Duke's and Pilar Wayne. So The Big Trail is where you should go if you're just getting started - there's a lot of reading to catch up to!

Hi

I've just got my copy of the up to date John Wayne f|ilm society Journal and althpough it looks goo I was quite surprised by some of the mistake. There is for instance an article on The Sons of Katie Elder and credits Paul Fix as Morgan Hastings and jeremy Slate as Matt Elder. Strange that a publication like this should make such basic errors I wondered at first if it was a deliberate mistake.

Apart from the regular magazine, I don't have any contact to the makers, there isn't any talking... I must admit I think the club serves the purpose to sell Wayne items more than to have a circle of fans who trade information and such.

Hi Roland

I tend to agree, although the conventions serve a useful purpose and a chance for fans to meet up and talk.

Another discrepancy is when discussing The Sons of Katie Elder the article quotes that during the making of the picture Dennis Hopper had a major falling out with Henry Hathaway when most biographers suggest it was while making From Hell To Texas, that the two men fell out.

Well he is still alive(Hopper), has he ever talked about it. Or maybe somebody just needs to ask.
