View Full Version : Forum Upgrade Is Coming Very Soon!
Kevin December 21st, 2006, 10:51 AM Hi all,
I will be tackling the forum upgrade over the next few days. What this will mean is that the board will be unavailable and offline for an uncertain amount of time. I'll be doing as much prep work before hand so that when I do go to upgrade and import existing threads from the old system, I'll hopefully avoid any major issues which would delay the process.
I again want to thank those who have contributed to the upgrade fund, and for helping make this happen! You now have a vested interest in our community, and helped take our humble little community to the next level. Thanks!!
Kevin
SXViper December 21st, 2006, 11:12 AM Is there anyway that I can contribute, I must have missed the post of your email or userid for paypal. I have not had to fun of a week so I must have missed it. Also, is there a "recommended" amount or just leave it up to us?

Senta, there is no reason to be sorry! This was voluntary and it didn't require that everyone donate. Every member to the JWMB contributes in different ways. You visiting and posting adds greatly to the site..

Todd, sorry to hear you had a crummy week :( ! The banner with the link to Paypal was at the top of the board for just a couple of days (well, maybe a little more), so you just didn't sign in while it was up, and that's why you missed it. Kevin said he would take it down when he got to the needed amount ($160, as I recall).
As Kevin so rightly states, monetary donations are just a small part of the contributions around here. The informative and interesting posts and friendly banter are a significant portion of what makes this such a great site!
Kevin, good luck with the upgrade - we look forward to it!
And to all who contributed $$$ - thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!

SXViper December 22nd, 2006, 05:12 AM Well, I feel real bad as I was one of the orginal people who spoke up about donating when it was first being discussed.
And here I missed out on it. If there is anything else needed please feel free to ask Kevin.
On a side note, being out of town in Raleigh for a week just before Christmas and then getting home and working a 24hr day, straight through, a couple days later. That is what I was dealing with, so I deeply apologize for not being a contributor. Like I said, let me know if there is anything more I can do.
Robbie December 22nd, 2006, 10:46 AM I'm afraid I feel like Todd.
I don't have a paypal account and I intended to post some money to Kevin but by the time I got his address the target had been met.
I feel quite fraudulent as I have benefited greatly from the board and its membership for over three years now and yet when financial contributions were needed I was nowhere to be seen.
Like Todd I would like to help out in any way I can in relation to the upgrade or further tasks that may been planned as I don't want to feel like a leach on this board.

Popol Vuh December 23rd, 2006, 10:00 AM I like to read this thread. In a few days we reached the mark and still we have members who want to contribute. Just shows that this site has a real lojal group of members who appreciate it a lot.

erthomp143 December 23rd, 2006, 12:55 PM To all that contributed... thank you
To all that are still looking for ways to contribute... thank you
As long as we have people in the group that want to give in anyway they can, this place will be around for a long time.
Kevin December 23rd, 2006, 09:06 PM Hi Everyone,
We are now on the new board!
The move (from a technical stand point) was alot easier than I expected, but there are a few small issues that will need addressing in the next days & weeks like, adding back your personal avatars, and adding back any profile images that you added on the old board. I was unable to import the avatars, profile images. Plus, some of the images that where attached to some of the posts may not display.
Once you login you'll see alot of new things like, new PM system, a more robust posting system which includes a nice new WYSIWYG entry window. Plus, you'll have greater control over different parts of the board, from the way the site is displayed to how you are contacted when you subscribe to threads.
I encourge you to spend some time looking around, and try some of the different features. I have been doing the same thing for the past day or two, and I still haven't learned everything about this new system.
And of course your input is welcome, and please let one of the mods know of any gliches that you may discover.
Thanks,
Kevin
Jay J. Foraker December 25th, 2006, 12:52 PM Hi Kevin -
Thanks for your help - I finally was able to log on. Right now, there are some aspects of the new format that are confusing, but as I familiarize myself with it, things should be able to sort out.
Cheers - Jay
