While surfing the net for John Wayne items, I came across this little item on interest. It seems that John Wayne's spirit has been seen haunting the real Alamo. I quess if anyone wants to meet the Duke, this might be your chance, sort of...

Anyway, what do you guys think?? :(

well i know we will all meet him one day because i beleive and one of the best lines in a movie came from the alamo the night before they all died one said "when your dead your meat for the worms" and the reply came from jocko with words "i say this i beleive, i can never find a way to argue down those of you that dont beleive, but i beleive in the lord god almighty all knowing and all forgiving and i beleive that good shall be triamphant in the end and that evil shall be vanquished, i beleive in the here after" if you have the same feelings and faith that i have then we all know we will all meet and shake the hand of our hero the great John 'the duke 'Wayne in the here after.

Keith,

Thanks for the link. I tried last night to find something, but for naught :yeaahh:.

The mention of John Wayne is on the second page, for those of you who want to get to main part of the story , if you know what I mean.

Thank you, Keith, for that information. I had heard of ghost stories regarding the Alamo, but not in the detail you provided. It's always the people right on top of the location that are the least informed. You would think a San Antonian would know all this stuff!!
Cheers - Jay:beer:

I remember seeing on one of those "news shows" a few years back that Duke was haunting his old boat, The Wild Goose. He could be seen walking the decks at night and stuff like that. Geesh, even in the afterlife, he sure does get around.

Thanks for posting the link. Read it earlier this evening and it is very interesting. Since we seem to be closing in on Halloween, are there any other ghost stories to be shared? :fear: :fear2: :vampire:

Hi,

John Wayne's Ghost on The Wild Goose

Here's a piece from psychicworld,

JOHN WAYNE'S GHOST

John Wayne owned a boat that he loved dearly, it was called The Wild Goose.
John Wayne sold this boat a month before he died, in 1979,
to a lawyer called Lynn Hutchins who lived in Santa Monica CA.
Lynn gave an interview to The National Enquirer
and told how he had seen the spirit of John Wayne on the boat:

'I've seen John Wayne's ghost twice and have felt his spirit
nearby many times.
I was sleeping in The Duke's stateroom.
I remember waking up with a start in the middle of the night.
The room was black and the boat was uncannily silent.
As my eyes got used to the dark I suddenly became aware
of someone standing by the door to the port gangway.
I froze because I was alone on the boat.
Then I leaped out of bed and the figure vanished into thin air!
Later I talked to Bert Minshall
a former captain of the boat and he said that the ghost
was John Wayne'

There have been other sightings of the ghost of John Wayne
on his beloved boat and he was once seen in a mirror behind the bar.
The beer glasses are reported to have been rattling at the time of this sighting.

Californian based psychic Pat Hayes investigated the boat
and she was convinced that John Wayne's spirit was returning
to the boat because he had a deep emotional attachment to it in life.

Below is a link to a another source,
giving a more detailed account of this.

Thanks, Keith, for "furthering" this thread.

I guess for us fans who didn't have the opportunity to meet Duke while he was alive, we could spend the night on the Wild Goose and maybe meet his ghost .

had the pleasure of being in that beautiful city six years ago. checked into our hotel at night and before unpacking walked over to the ALAMO no ghost but got a feeling.
the same feeling a man gets when his first baby shaves
or makes his first sound like a man.
well you get the picture.

Hi Todd, nope, I never saw any ghosts or apparitions etc. I've been to the Alamo about a dozen times over the years and never saw anything out of the ordinary. Once inside the walls, you get a feeling because of all the great folks who fought and died where your walking around. I've also been to the Goliad Mission - which is where Fannon was stationed and later was murdered in a massacre after surrendering to the Mexican soldiers. I recall feeling more presance (SP?) of some kind there than at the Alamo.

Anyone else have any close encounters from the spirit world while at the Alamo?

Or maybe, if not at the Alamo, maybe some place else?

No, but I have been to Bracketville to the fake Alamo and ran in to some fake spirits. Does that count?

Sorry.

I do know about the feeling that Ringo talks about in and around the Alamo and Goliad as well. But sorry, no ghosts. About the only scary thing I've encountered in South Texas is my family that's down there.

Hi Todd, quite welcome.

The scariest thing I have ever been around here is the VERY bad drivers who traveled around the valley, when I was a college student in Harlingen. Those were THE MOST worse drivers I had even seen. Using the center lane (the one lane between the one lanes going both directions) :glare: as a driving lane no matter which direction these ID10T's were driving. These were many-a-time, that I had no idea how the heck I kept from being killed in a car accident--having to watch out and drive defensively against those nut-cases. :yeaahh: :stunned:
