Tina (sorry, I couldn't resist) chester7777 January 20th, 2003, 10:25 AM It doesn't seem that there are enough people here at any one time to warrant that. But certainly if it was just a couple of people, you could use something like AIM or ICQ. I guess those have the means to allow more than 2 people, but I don't know how to do that, but they could serve the purpose for just 2. Aren't we chattin' now? :D Chester Kevin January 20th, 2003, 04:10 PM I had a chat room over at jwayne.com back a year or so ago but it was never used. :( If there's an interest in it now and people want it, maybe I can get the chat room back up again. Of course I don't have loads of time now so it would have to police itself, or someone could help keep it civil. ;) Kevin twobtrue2johnwayne January 20th, 2003, 05:32 PM I guess we are kinda chatting on the mesage board, but its not the same really. Since I became a member, alot of new people have joined. I think we should give it another try. What does everyone think? Kevin January 20th, 2003, 07:31 PM Well let's have a poll! I'm not much of a chatter BUT, I'll offer it IF you guy's think you want it. Kevin Go vote here: http://www.dukewayne.com/index.php?act=ST&f=3&t=31 LittleDuke January 20th, 2003, 09:41 PM Hey guys, This is my first time on anything like this. Can we set a certain time for our chat? The evening is best for everyone I guess. Keep me informed. Thanks, LittleDuke twobtrue2johnwayne January 20th, 2003, 09:48 PM I don't know about being able to set a time, you'd think it would be available whenever. On the message board page Kevin has put up a "vote" site for everyone to decide ifthey are interested and if enough say "yes", I guess he'll get it together for us all. Is that right Kevin? I have limited time, and I'm not a big chat room guy, but, I know there are people who would use it. So if everyone is game and vote for it than we'll see about getting one up and running. Kevin twobtrue2johnwayne January 20th, 2003, 10:04 PM Hey, thanks Kevin. Hopefully you'll get alot who want to join in and we can get it up and running. Thanks again! Tina :) kwirtj January 23rd, 2003, 03:42 PM Yeah! Go Raiders!!! I think John Wayne must have been a Raiders fan. This is my first time here so; Hello to all of you. Kevin January 23rd, 2003, 05:52 PM Hi kwirtj, Welcome aboard!!! Just jump in here and have fun. Kevin p.s. Go Tampa Bay. ;) smokey January 30th, 2003, 07:57 PM hi this is my first visit to this site i have been a jw fan for many years along with a jimmy stewart fan my son who is 6 loves to watch the angle and the badman, we now have to get a new copy before he wears it out. it is good to see like minded people from all over the world getting together. i found out about this site from a mag i bought while shopping so keep up the good work and glad its a clean site and no bad language on it all the best to you smokey :) chester7777 January 31st, 2003, 01:00 AM Hey, Smokey! Welcome! We, too, have a 6 year old who loves John Wayne. When he was only three, we went into a local place called "The Cowboy Restaurant", and over the cash register was a sketch of John Wayne. We walked in and this little kid (our son) looks up and says, "Hey, look, it's John Wayne!" The restuarant staff were blown away that such a little guy had any idea who that was! It was great. He used to call "The Searchers" his own version, "The Lookers". And he still occasionally puts his cowboy boots on the wrong feet. We also like Jimmy Stewart and some of the other "old" greats, like Humphrey Bogart and Cary Grant. We've seen just about every classic the local video store has to offer, so now we have to buy the ones we haven't seen from E-bay or Amazon.com. Better than blowing $39 a month on cable! Chester B) (75 degrees and sunny today in CA) P.S. In what magazine did you see a reference to this site? smokey January 31st, 2003, 07:16 AM hi chester the mag is called NETGUIDE. I am living in australia so i don't know if you get it in the usa. it's great that all of the old classics can be watched by our children as my son told me once while watching on of the dukes movies didn't that indian just fall off his horse before mummy lol. i tend to not want my son to watch too many of the modern movies as they contain to much swearing and to much voilence and too much sex where as the old ones the sex was implied. :D it is a pleasent hot and sticky 38 C and no rain in sight cheers smokey LittleDuke February 1st, 2003, 10:02 AM Hi Smokey! I agree with you. I have three children 10,7, and 3. They have all been growing up with John Wayne. They love Hitari they get a kick out of that. They also love Donovan's Reef. Sometimes they will spend a saturday or sunday watching one of his movies. My oldest daughter watches animal planet alot and the other two watch cartoon network, disney or nick. We all watch TVLand at night. I just can't get into the new shows. There isn't much on that I want them to watch. They are aware of the real world but don't have to see it on t.v. all the time. New Jersey Little Duke smokey February 1st, 2003, 10:58 AM Hi LittleDuke we watch Hitari and Donovan's Reef as well, though our copies are taped from my mums pay tv. it is very hard to get jw movies here in Australia it took me 6 months to get a copy of She Wore A Yellow Ribbon. i have bought quite a lot of jw movies and i keep them with my dads as he is a fan of most of jw movies, he doesn't like Hellfighters so i have that one at home with me. when we are in the mood for a good weekend my son says lets get some cowboy movies mum. i have also bought some of the other old classics like The Parent Trap for him to watch. we don't have pay tv so we watch ABCKids it has things on it like Bob the Builder and such. as you say they know about real life so they don't need it in front of them at home. Queensland Aust cheers smokey chester7777 February 1st, 2003, 06:07 PM Little Duke and Smokey, We still have 4 children at home (2 on their own now :D ), but it's really the 6 year old that's a BIG John Wayne fan. He must watch one John Wayne movie a day, it seems. Last night, we watched "In Harm's Way" and "Donovan's Reef". Now Donovan's Reef has got to be the hokiest movie John Wayne made, IMHO. One of the reviewers on IMDb suggested that it was " . . . John Wayne in an Elvis movie . . . ." Even so, it was still fun to watch. "In Harm's Way" had some situations that weren't appropriate for small children, so that was a good time to go brush teeth. We recently acquired "Hatari" and that was a big hit. My wife and I don't like our little cowboy to watch "Big Jake" because it is more graphically violent than most of the Duke's earlier movies. He really gets a good laugh out of "The Fighting Kentuckian." On another subject, I went to the dump today and found a perfect oak picture frame laying there, glass unbroken, and just the right size for the poster from "Sands of Iwo Jima" that I won on E-bay. I am expecting it any day now. Divine providence strikes again! Smokey, E-bay is a pretty good place to get John Wayne movies. We really beefed up our collection that way. Also, Amazon.com has used movies that are in good shape, sometimes half of the price of a new movie. I may be mistaken, but are your video recorders in a different region than ours, and how does that work when it comes to buying movies internationally? Chester smokey February 2nd, 2003, 07:58 AM hi chester, we have vhs over here but my recorder has a switch which goes from PAL to MESECAM can watch home movies sent from the uk but don't know about movies from else where. sorry to say don't do much shopping on line. i agree that some of the dukes movies still a little too much violence for my 6 year old but i fine he gets the most enjoyment out of watching the ones that are a little on the funny side as well as the cowboy and itchybums (that's what my son calles them). great find at the dump we can't do that over here it is illegal so we have to try second hand stores or places like noah's ark they run at the dump and you have to pay for what you want. i have only the one child and he has just started school first year so we don't get to see any movies durning the week only on week ends. the dukes movies are hard to get here as they move quickly from the stores as his movies are in great demand so first in best dressed or the early bird gets the worm. on my mum & dads pay tv last month there were a couple of the dukes movies and i didn't get a tape round quick enough so missed out :( well thanks for the heads up about ebay and amazon will look into they once all school fees are paid we have about 30 movies so far i think never really counted them. well cheeryoh smokey chester7777 February 2nd, 2003, 10:01 AM Smokey, My wife and I just had an interesting discussion, trying to figure out what time it is in your zone, compared to ours, and we figured out you are 18 hours ahead of us in California. That would make chatting in real time a little challenging. It seems that the posting time on the messages is in Eastern Standard Time (Greenwich Mean Time minus 5 hours). Your message posted at almost 9 AM Eastern time, which is almost 6 AM our time on Sunday morning and, if we have figured it correctly, you entered at just before midnight late Sunday night. Did we do that right?? Mind-boggling, isn't it??? Chester smokey February 3rd, 2003, 05:29 AM hi chester, well i am writting this post at 3 Feb 9.10pm our time in QLD we don't have daylight saving so we are 1 hr behind Sydney. it is mind boggling as we try to think how far you are behind us and yes it was near midnight i last posted. got of the computer and heard about the shuttle breaking up, there are some interesting jokes going around about it, that is how we deal with this sort of happening we are sad but have to find a funny side to it. well the joke is "what does NASA stand for? Need Another Seven Astronauts." ;) thought this might lighten the sadness everyone feels at this time. this news broke early monday morning if this will help you with the time difference, its like when the towers got hit it was happening 09/12 for us here in australia. hope this helps you out with the time topic. we have rain but not where its needed the most just on the coast line not outback where they are trucking water in in big tankers to keep some of the town supplied with water just for the most important stuff some towns are now only allowing the water to run through the pipes for 4hrs a day. my little bloke is enjoying school but can't wait for the weekends so that he can watch some movies as well as have some time on the computer well cheers catch you later smokey BrianB July 2nd, 2003, 04:20 AM a Chat room would be nice Brian Tulalip Wa |
