Hello 1Jim1,
With my list of movies it would be The Man From Monteray 1933 but don't worry if I'm wrong Hondo, Robbie, or someone will correct me

The list I found said "1926 The Great K&A Train Robbery". Try this link http://search.biography.com/print_record.pl?id=748

1jim1,

Welcome to the John Wayne Message Board! Here you will find a broad base of extremely knowledgeable John Wayne fans who love to share information with anyone who will listen.

According to IMDb (Internet Movie Database), John Wayne's first movie was Bardelys the Magnificent (1926), in which he is credited with the part of a guard. Also in 1926, he was in The Great K & A Train Robbery, as an uncredited extra. According to that same source, his seventh movie was Hangman's House, in 1928, again in an uncredited role.

By all accounts Hangmans house is the first movie he can be clearly seen in.

Salute was the first movie in which he talked in.

The Big Trail was his first starring role.

Hope this helps
