I myself chose Sean Connery. I know that most of these aren't very good choices, but these are all actors I enjoy and have liked in various movies.

I think Clint Eastwood would have made a good co-star with Duke. It would have been interesting to see what kind of script would have been developed under such circumstances.

It depends on what decade it was made, the Eastwood persona was still being developed in the 60's but came to fruition with Dirty Harry.

Clint Eastwood would be an interesting possibility but I would prefer Harrison Ford

Must say I'd like to have seen Connery and Duke on the big screen!! I enjoy the majority of Sean Connery pictures. So that would be my choice. Second choice Eastwood, then Arnold.

Out of these, I chose Clint Eastwood. But, would have liked to have seen the Duke team up with with the guy I got my "Maverick" screen name from, James Garner. Would have been fun to see Duke's tough guy character team up with the cowardly cowboy that Garner played so well.

Others I would have liked to have seen Duke team up with; Bob Hope and Gary Cooper.

None of these even match the caliber of The Duke with the exception of Clint Eastwood. The others have their own specialty genre's and some more than one but to be in a movie with The Duke... no way.

THIS LIST SUCKS, so I am going to try to work on a better list.

I was trying to name some of the biggest stars of the past two decades, but my mind went blank! I might see about creating another poll like this, except with names nominated by the board.

I think Connery and the Duke would have made a good match in an international detective type film.

I agree Morgan Freeman is indeed a vastly underrated actor, he brings a good presence to the screen.

Of the people listed here, I'd have to go with Eastwood. Wayne and Connery were in a movie together (although they may not have shared screen time (The Longest Day)).

What about Wayne and Spencer Tracy or perhaps James Cagney?

This is funny..I was just talking to my friend last night and had mentioned to him that I would have liked to have seen Clint and the Duke make a movie together. My friend is related to Eastwood and is a fan of his, but, is a bigger fan of the Duke. When I was VERY young I had a crush on Rowdy Yates, and even today could listen to the theme from Rawhide over and over.

I would have liked to see Clint Eastwood and John Wayne do a movie or two together. Although I don't think The Duke liked Eastwoods choices for movie roles.

I'll have to go with Clint Eastwood. John Wayne would have fit into the TV series Rawhide perfectly, with Clint as Rowdy Yates.

Another thought would be having another Back to the Future movie, where Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd actually come into a JW movie set and interact with Duke (although BttF 3 came about as close to that as you can get).

I agree - Garner's breeziness and the Duke's more profound presence.

I think McQueen and the Duke would have gone well together too.

James Garner would have been great. Another actor would have been Lee Van Cleef. I know he was in Liberty Valance, but he turned out to be a very good western actor in my opinion and I think they could have made a good movie after Cleef became more popular.

I thought about this for a while and I have to say that I'd like to see Clint Eastwood with Duke in a movie together. I think there was talk of getting them together but there was some conflict and it never worked out. But what a team to work with each other in a movie. My second choice on that list would have been Sean Connery. That would have been a great duo. Not sure what they could do together, but it could be great.

Ofcourse I had to go for Patrick Stewart here.My 2 favourite all time actors in one film would blow me over.Watching Patrick's King of Texas always kept me thinking that John Wayne might come into view on his horse.Ah well..dreams...

My fantasy is to see John Wayne, Dean Martin and Steve McQueen in "Rio Bravo". McQueen hadn't made "The Magnificent Seven" yet and would have much more effective as a young hotshot gunslinger.
Probably couldn't handle the guitar as well, but Dean could have faked that.
Also would have liked to seen James Coburn and Charles Bronson share screen time with Duke. Look how well Lee Marvin did.

I voted for Morgan Freeman although Sean Connery was a close second. I read the comments of everyone here so far and yes there's others I miight have put on this list...Jack Palance, George C Scott, perhaps. Most of these actors on your list are on the downward arc of their lives and careers- are there any modern action stars of note or even good actors ?

The sad part is the actor who gets the most screen time these days is good old C.G.I. ( Mr Computer Generated Images), since there has to be fantastical effects to suipplant the acting. Magic wands, aliens, zombies, mythical beasts and the nightmares that haunt us.

The Pirates of the Caribbean was a hugely successful series of films, but somehow I dont see Johnny Depp with Duke.

I have to ponder this some more. One thought I had was that Hugh Laurie, who stars in the TV show 'House' here in the states could make the transition to action films. In some ways he reminds me of Bruce Dern, but I think he could don a hat and portray a frontier character convincingly if he wanted to. Hmmm Not sure hed ever be up to partnering with the Duke but he should give Westerns a try.

I have always wanted to see JW and clint eastwood in a movie together. But with two great good guy actors like these two together i have to wonder who would be the bad guy or guys they go up against?

The movie, Space Cowboy, with Clint Eastwood, had an all star cast, and seemed to work out well. I would think the script of a movie could be a deciding factor as to how well two top actors could work together. And their ability to bridle their egos.
