I would be glad to help you out, JWfan. Here is what he said...
" WOW ! If I had known that, I'd have put that(eye) patch on 35 years earlier ! Ladies and gentleman, I'm no stranger to this podium. I've come up here and picked up these beautiful golden men before, but always for friends. One night, I picked up 2 ; One for Admiral John Ford and one for our beloved Gary Cooper. I was very clever and witty that night - - The envy of even Bob Hope. But tonight, I don't feel very clever; very witty. I feel very greatful, very humble, and I owe thanks to many, many, people. I want to thank the members of the Academy. And to all of you people who are watching on television, thank you for taking such a warm interest in our glorious industry. Good night."
I thought that was a great acceptance speach. dukefan1

The full Oscar sequence (complete with Suspense) and even an earlier appearence of that evening, when he introduces Bob Hope, a man with "True Grit", is on the DVD "John Wayne - The Later Years" (second part of "JW - the early years").
You might want to get it even though the research of that piece will make your TEETH HURT at times when they pronounce character names wrongly, or just when they don't get the years right. Anyway, you'll find them at Amazon.
Shots of JW leaving the auditorium, showing his Oscar to his fans, were used in the advance trailer of "Chisum".
