Hi All,
Sometime back we all were told that John Wayne's home in Newport Beach was going to be torn down. I was just wondering if it was. They were going to sell the bricks to give a donation to a Cancer Charity or Fund. I hope it wasn't torn down but, I was just thinking about it again.
Have a good one,
LittleDuke

Yep afraid so.
That must have been late Sept /Oct when it happened.
I guess the mildew was so bad that there wasn't a choice.
As far as the bricks...I haven't heard anything yet.

I didn't know that they tore his house down. I had seen it several times. My uncle worked for John Wayne. He sent my husband, who worked for a pest control company, ;) so he took care of some silver fish in a small place where he kept his costumes from the movies that he made.

Hello to all my fellow John Wayne fans.
Yes, unfortunately the John Wayne home was purchased and torn down. The home was mostly made out of wood, so I'm sure the beach termites had a field day chewing on it over the years!

Having spent my formative years living in Newport Beach; this is hardly new. Homes along the Back Bay are torn down all the time for new construction. However, the new owner is going to have to meet fairly stringent building requirements when he decides to build. John Wayne lived in one of the first gated communities to be built in Orange County.

Hello Swede116,
When I first heard about his home being torn down I didn't know or think of the damage done to the house over a period of time. I did know it was on the water but just kept thinking it's John Wayne's home. There really isn't much else they could do in a situation like that.
Thanks for the info,
Little Duke

One would think with all of us John wayne fans out in this world. That if enough notice was put out that each fan could pleadge one dallor and buy the land and house and have it completely rebuilt as a historical site.
