gt12pak July 10th, 2007, 03:36 PM Great clip Tbone and so very true. I look forward to buying that one in the near future.
The Ringo Kid July 10th, 2007, 06:06 PM Wish I knew what you guys were talking about since I can't access much of anything from these public library computers.
Out of frustration and as the Incredible Hulk would say just after he rips his shirt off and gets really angry: " AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
gt12pak July 10th, 2007, 06:11 PM To make a long story short, the song is about people here should speak English no matter where they come from!!!!!

Ahh, thanks. I was kinda figuring that was what the subject (that I wholheartedly agree with) was about ;-) Heh, here in my area, we have had to endure that for goiing on 30 years now. Of course, not as rampant as it is now--but was still as annoying none the less.

Here are the lyrics:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PRESS ONE FOR ENGLISH
Hey, I can't read that sign out there
Please tell me what's it say
We have to have subtitles
In five languages these days
Now we don't ask too much
To share this land of liberties
But if it's not too much to ask
Could you please speak English
(Chorus)
English is my language
It's the language of this land
And every sign that's posted here
I should understand
I do not live in China, Mexico
No foreign place
And English is the language
Of the United States
Now I'll speak very clear for you
So there'll be no mistake
My family fought and died
Protecting freedoms in these states
Now we all welcome those who come
But when you reach our shores
Folks you should speak our language
Not the one you spoke before
(Repeat chorus)
Now I'm proud of this country
And this great Democracy
And I believe an open door
Should be our policy
But for these opportunities
We'd simply ask you this
Hey you're the one who chose to come
Now choose to speak English
Now here's one thing I question
And try to understand
Hey why must I press one for English
When it's the language of this land
(Repeat chorus)
I do not live in China, Mexico,
No foreign place
And English is the language
Of these United States
The video is interspersed with photos of relatives of the performer, who have been in the service; Russian, Italian, Chinese, and Chilean immigrants in an English class; a quote by Theodore Roosevelt, in 1907, that says, "We have room for but one flag . . . the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language . . . and we have room for but one sole loyalty, and that is a loyalty to the American people."
Here's (http://www.sptimes.com/2007/05/15/Hillsborough/Are__Press_One_for_En.shtml) an article about the song (it's where I found the lyrics), and here's (http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/troosevelt.asp) an entry from the Urban Legends site regarding Roosevelt's quote.
The Ringo Kid July 10th, 2007, 06:54 PM Thank you Jim/Sue, for letting me be able to read this. Some steam has now been let out of my valve system.
I have a question? Do you both feel like adopting a little known outlaw-turned good (honest), known as the Ringo Kid? ;-D
Best regards--Carl.
I remember the quantity, the crap we put up with, the drug problem in Kingsville, plus I was so stupid to marry one of those @#$^@&)^#.
The Ringo Kid July 11th, 2007, 07:09 PM Sadly, that drug problem and that pc thing, has only gotten much worse here. Even lawyers (aka) jerks, & Car Salesmen in their TV ads, even have full spanish commercials on regular channels--really is disgusting. >:-(( Oh and recently saw two from doctors placing new TV ads too. Lundquist Buick is REAL bad about the spanish commercials. If I ever get into a position of being able to buy a new car--I will not buy one from cooper lundquist's dealership.
Also, almost eveywhere here, you see huge spanish-language billboards all over town. :-((
Speaking of Kingsville, I have not set foot in that town in now probably 10 years--and I live only 40 or so miles from there. I know so few people there these days and it just is not worth the drive to go there for anything.
