View Full Version : I'll Be North To Alaska
itdo July 26th, 2003, 04:26 AM I'll take my vacation in a couple weeks in Alaska. Unlike other vacations, I didn't plan this one to see a movie location - but as the date comes nearer, I figgered it might be nice to... you know.
Anybody knows of any film-related sites in the state up north?
Now I know they didn't shoot "North to Alaska" there. Actually it's quite obvious that Henry Hathaway stretches this location by using it again and again - that same river bend (always filmed from above to introduce it, so there could be no mistake the film company traveled to the same spot again) he used in North to Alaska, True Grit and Nevada Smith (the place Steve McQueens learns to shoot straight from Brian Keith).
Monique July 26th, 2003, 05:30 AM itdo,
My roomate is from K-town so all I hear about is Alaska from sun-up to sun-down
Enjoy your trip and may god bless :D As far as the sights you are talking about, dealing with HOLLYWOOD it's most likely North Bend Idao (joke)
Monique ;)
itdo August 17th, 2003, 12:23 PM So now I'm really taking off for some weeks, cutting my teeth in real Sam McCord territory.
That'll shut me up for a while!
Be well,
Roland
Robbie August 17th, 2003, 12:47 PM Hope you have a good holiday and who knows you may learn some more interesting john Wayne trivia if that is at all possible with you as you know so much.
Don't forget to come back to this messageboard when you return.

Have a great trip! Take your laptop with you, and keep in touch, we can't stand two weeks without you :dead: !
Seriously, we'll miss you, and we wish you a safe and happy trip.

itdo September 8th, 2003, 06:32 AM Hello Gang!
After 3 week in the "True North" I thought I'd start over from where I left.
It's sad to hear about Brian's passing, I will especially remember his great knowledge of everything military.
The closest I've come to JW up in the Klondike was hearing Johnny Horton's song "North to Alaska" in a shop! It's really rugged up there in Sam McCord territory, I can recommand it to everybody who likes to hike, watch wildlife and, in general, likes not to see another living soul for miles and miles and miles of woods.
When I took just a glance at this board last week, my computer completely broke down - must be because you've been such a busy group! There's probably no way to catch up on my reading of all these posts, so if I missed out something you want me to know, please tell me. I won't be able to stick around on this board in the future quite as often as I could before (meaning: several times a day!), there's a new assignment coming up which's going to take time but I'll be back often.
Hondo Duke Lane September 8th, 2003, 05:20 PM itdo,
Glad to have you back. We missed you, certainly, but I guess we managed. ;) A lot has happened especially with the sudden departure of BrianB which we were all shocked. :( But we grew so much with many new members, and have been busy with such topics like the relationship between Duke & Frank Sinatra, Duke getting wet, more of the picture game from Baron, and best of all more getting involed in the chat line. We have actually had more members chatting with each other, and enjoyed getting to know each other.
Well, I said the best is chatting, but maybe that was premature, the best has to be the expanding of the message board from Kevin, which he has done a great job putting together. He had some free time, and made some changes which I haven't heard any complaints about adding a faster link to the chat line, pinning some of the games, and info for the memebers, etc.
Yes, itdo, there is a lot of posts since you left, but they had an obivious absences on comments, and were glad to see you back again. I'm glad you had a great time, wish I was there with you. I know it was cool there.
Take Care, Roland
Cheers, Hondo
P.S. some additional smiles: :headbonk:  :cowboy: :stunned: :search: :frusty:
