I have a soft cover book about John Wayne on Board the Wild Goose, his personal boat. It is filled with pictures of his children, wives and some celebrities.
Is this a common book? Thanks in advance for the info.

Hi Willard
Glad to answer your question, and welcome to this board, hope you stick around.
There was the hardcover version of the book first, and the release of the book was followed by the video "On Board with the Duke" which consists of rare Home movies which were made by the boat's crew. All the pictures were made with permission of the Wayne family then, of course, but I suspect they never expected their private moments to be released to the public some day. So even though I of course HAD to have both the book and the video it was with a guilty pleasure to view them. But about you're question: I don't think it already became a rare book, you can still get them in many places.

Thanks for the hello and the reply.
You are right, these are private moments. I was actually going to give it to a Wayne family member but if it is that common, I'll be selfish and keep it.

Hi Willard
the people responsible for both the book and the video On Board with the Duke claim they have been best friends with the family, so I gather they should have presented them with an issue! But if they haven't, maybe they would love to see all those photos from happier times when the whole family was healthy and spending time on JW's yacht. So I won't talk you out of that! But it's interesting for all of us, of course, that you have access to the Wayne family. Would you mind giving us more info about that?

I apologize if I implied I had access to the Wayne family. I was going to try the good old www to find a reliable address.

Hey, Willard, it wasn't a heavy implication, but I think we were all hopeful.

I have personally tried searching a few different ways, to try to contact different members of the Wayne family, all unsuccessful.

In more than one thread on this message board, there is an address for Batjac, and that might be a means of reaching someone in the family, but I wouldn't count on it.

If I haven't already welcomed you to the message board, I'd like to take the opportunity now to do so. It's good to have you aboard!

I don't know that the book is all that common, as I just searched for it on Amazon, and there were 2 hard cover copies available, starting at . . . are you ready for this . . . $155 and change :o ! The video is sort of available. You can tell them you're interested, list your price range and other conditions, and they'll let you know if it comes available.

Willard, I think I'd hang on to that book if I were you! ;)

The HARD cover version was the first edition, then came the soft covers.
I got mine at Universal studios in Hollywood, and I saw more copies in shops dealing with film books. Amazon is not necessairily the only places to get your books.
The Old West Shop is a good place to get books relating to Hollywood, I think I placed their internet-address in a different topic.

Itdo,

Thanks for that kind reminder - Amazon is NOT the only place to buy books!

I just checked out www.oldwestshop.com and browsed through their book list - oh, to have piles of money to spend on books . . . . The books are not particularly expensive, I just want to buy too many :o .

The Old West Shop is also the publisher of "Candid Cowboys", the books by Neil Summers who was and is an active stuntmen (worked in 5 JW films); a collection of candid and behind the scenes photos from our favourite Cowboy stars, just GREAT. I believe the print is limited so if you can get on there grab fast.
