What do you think of the Bradford Exchange merchandise? I bought the knife as a gift for a friend and he loved it.

What do you think of the Bradford Exchange merchandise?

I bought a JW plate from them last month that, although it was a nice-looking plate, was overpriced, I thought. Especially when you threw in the S&H cost.

Well, quite a few months ago, I ordered some John Wayne checks from the Bradford exchange. They ended up being kind of pricey, but considering how few checks I actually write, I figure they'll last me a good long time. They're pretty neat, and in the extra line under my address, instead of a phone number, I put the address to this web site, so maybe somebody, somewhere, might check us out as a result.

Anyway, as a result of that purchase, of course I'm now on their mailing list. A while back, I got mail offering me the wonderful opportunity to purchase a John Wayne cuckoo clock. Yup, you read that correctly. So . . . for the price of $199 (probably plus the ever-present shipping and handling), you too can own a JW cuckoo clock!

You can go here (http://www.collectiblestoday.com/ct/product/prdid-107235001.jsp?_Bradford/_prod/_901+928/_/_/_/_&endeca=true&abbr=brad#) to see some more pictures, close-up, of the clock.

Just thought you'd like to know!

I've regretted buying that plate because I got on their mailing list and for the past two years, have been absolutely inundated with solicitations to buy their merchandise. And even though I've sent them emails to take me off their mailing list, they ignore my pleas. It'll be a cold day before I buy anything else from Bradford Exchange.

Bradford have tried to pick up where Franklin Mint left off. All their items are over-priced, which is why you now see FM stuff on eBay for a very low cost. Give it a while and the Bradford stuff will be offered at much lower prices.

I feel they (Bradford) and Wayne Ent have tried to cash in on Duke's Centenary. The plates are OK and the figurines not too bad, but some of the other stuff ranges from tacky to junk. In fact less has been offered to the UK market than the US/Canadian market. I commented a few months ago that the porcelain gun-in-holster was left-handed.

FM reissued the Colt 45 single action revolver, but who bought it at $400?
