chester7777 January 13th, 2008, 01:48 AM Listening to Buddy Greene! Among other things, he is a harmonica virtuoso - I know that sounds corny, but he is GOOD. He also plays guitar and plays blues, gospel stuff - great entertainer that I've seen in concert quite a few times.
Chester :newyear:
P.S. Ringo, the Mrs. says you almost spelled cacophony correctly !

Hi H.sanada
Thanks for the info on those cd's. The only Poco cd I have is a greatest hits. My music usually tends to be on the harder side, but there are times I like to lighten it up a bit.

Lawrence Welk??!?!!!?!? C'mon Kev. I didn't say anything about your Barry Manilow collection did I? Oooops, there goes some of my posts.
Kevin January 14th, 2008, 07:49 PM Barry is cool! And he's still alive.
SXViper January 15th, 2008, 11:03 PM This will blow the Aussie minds. I have Airbourne playing. If you like AC/DC you will love these guys. I cannot get enough of it.
smokey January 16th, 2008, 07:41 AM hi sxviper
not a fan of AC/DC prefer to listern to john franhman (think it is spelt wrong) or asorted rock and roll from the late 60's to early 70's
cheers smokey
SXViper January 16th, 2008, 06:30 PM Smokey, have you heard of Airbourne? They are from a town called Warrnambool. How close is that to you?
Anyways, I have always liked 80's hair band rock so it nice to see a new band come out and keep the 80's rock, rolling :)
Bek January 17th, 2008, 01:32 AM Warnambool is in Victoria, which is roughly 2000 km or so from us :)
I'm listening to Chris LeDoux - Copenhagen
Just switched to The Thunder Rolls - Garth Brooks
SXViper January 17th, 2008, 09:27 AM Wow, that is quite a long trip then.
Back to the topic, I just picked up "The Eagles" new CD and was not impressed at the beginning but after spinning it a few times I am beginning to like it. The 2nd CD is more like the Eagles from the 70's, which is what I liked.
gt12pak January 17th, 2008, 03:44 PM Well I'm now listening to the remake of Back in the Saddle by Sebastian Bach and Axl Rose. Anyone remember those two?
SXViper January 17th, 2008, 10:26 PM Well I'm now listening to the remake of Back in the Saddle by Sebastian Bach and Axl Rose. Anyone remember those two?
Hell yeah, Bach from Skid Row and Axl from G n R. That is actually a pretty good remake of the song. If I remember right its from Bach's latest release "Angel Down". gt if you like that I know you will like this new band I was talking about previously that are from Australia. Check them out at www.myspace.com/airbourne (http://www.myspace.com/airbourne) or www.airbournerock.com (http://www.airbournerock.com) . Ther album will be released on the 29th of this month.

I quite like the new CD, not their best by a long shot, not bad either though. "How Long" is being played over & over on the radio stations over here.
I'm listening to "I Cross My Heart" by George Strait
Jay J. Foraker January 18th, 2008, 12:14 PM I'm the oddball here! I a fanatical classical music aficionado. Sometimes I can't get enough of it. Besides having over 5000 recordings in various formats (LP, cassette tape and CD), I'm a founding member of our 24 hour classical music station here in San Antonio. Who do I like best, you ask? Generally the composer I'm listening to at the moment!
Cheers - Jay:beer:

Who says real rock is dead? You just gotta know where to go find it and I can definitely see me owning this cd in the near future. Thanks for the links Viper and oh yes, I can definitely see the AC/DC influence.
dc65 January 24th, 2008, 09:54 PM there is more than an acdc influence to airbourne, their single sounds just like acdc. I heard it on the radio and had to listen hard to tell it was some one else. It seems like alot of rock music now is just a real rip off of seventies stuff. The band Jet, they had a single that sounded exactly like a guess who song (are you familiar with the guess who, up here in canada, they're still a big deal!) and another song that sounded just like iggy pop lust for life.
Right now I am listening to jungleland by bruce springsteen from born to run

Bek January 25th, 2008, 03:34 AM I'm listening to This Cowboy's Hat(Live) by Chris LeDoux
One of my alltime favourite songs. I can really relate to this song.
chester7777 January 25th, 2008, 08:11 AM I'm listening to a major radio station in the San Francisco Bay area via live streaming. I can get the news and weather while tooling around the message board - it's one of those news/news talk stations, but between 5 and 9 AM, it's all news, sports, weather, traffic reports, and financial reports. Since I'm not using headphones, everyone in the room is listening to it by default - but they're all used to it.
Mrs. C :angel1:
Moonshine_Sally January 26th, 2008, 04:03 AM I am listening to a flemish singer at the moment. One of my Canadian cousins had a fire in her home the other year and she used to have loads of records and cassettes from Will Tura but which ofcourse where all destroyed. For all the lovely memories she used to share with her mom (my dad's older sister) she asked me if I could sent her some cd's with his "older" music. So I went and bought some and will mail them to her next week. In the meantime...I'm listening to these cd's...
Bek January 29th, 2008, 03:01 AM I'm listening to the Garth Brooks "Ultimate Hits" cd at the moment, it's one that I just listen to over and over and over, this is the third time today. Usually at least once a day, I never get sick of Garth.

I like Jet as well, not a huge fan but I liked some of there songs. I am not a very big fan of bands from the 70's, little too weird at times.
As far as Airbourne goes, they do sound alot like AC/DC but then again alot of bands in the 80's sounded alot like each other. And since AC/DC haven't come with any new material in about 8 years and there last album in a word, sucked, then I think its just great the we get this release from Airbourne.
chester7777 January 29th, 2008, 09:44 PM The soundtrack from the Broadway play 1776 - I have loved this music ever since I saw the play in 1972.
Mrs. C :angel1:
Bek January 30th, 2008, 06:10 AM I'm listening to Good Ride Cowboy by Garth Brooks.
It's a tribute to Chris LeDoux, which I must say is very fitting aswell :)
SXViper February 11th, 2008, 10:27 PM I know Bek love's country but I just picked up on another rock band with a 80's sound, gt will love them. They are called "Hardcore Superstar". Here is the link to there myspace page and some music: http://www.myspace.com/hcssgbg If you want to buy the cd it is rather tough and alittle more expensive then usual as it hasn't been releast in the states yet. I did find it at Amazon.com for $17.00 pluss shipping.
gt12pak February 12th, 2008, 04:39 PM Well, Viper, if it's as good as the Airbourne disc, I'll definitely be checking it out.
SXViper February 12th, 2008, 10:37 PM Well, Viper, if it's as good as the Airbourne disc, I'll definitely be checking it out.

Bek February 13th, 2008, 03:21 AM I was listening to some Airbourne the other day SXViper, it was great! I'm surprised I hadn't heard of them before, being Aussies.
Anyway
I'm listening to Two Pina Coladas by Garth Brooks.
Stumpy February 13th, 2008, 07:15 AM I have 3 or 4 hundred songs on my computer that I listen to occasionally. Mostly older stuff from the Forties through the Sixties. Everything from R&B to C&W.

Yup Bek, straight ahead rock and roll. No weird rap stuff mixed in, just like AC/DC. Good stuff.
Bek February 14th, 2008, 03:45 AM To bad there's not more like that Viper.
I'm listening to Midnight Sun by Garth Brooks
gt12pak February 14th, 2008, 03:38 PM This is gonna be a bit different, but I'm listening to the Jack Benny birthday marathon on RadioClassics.
Bek February 15th, 2008, 02:10 AM I'm listening to Wrapped by George Strait.
Just clicked over to The River by Garth Brooks.
Nothing like a bit of George & Garth to relax me after a hard day.
gt12pak February 21st, 2008, 06:52 PM Got some Waylon in the cd deck right now. Folks this is true country music.
Bek February 22nd, 2008, 05:57 AM Sort of ironic that Waylon, Johnny, Willie were once rejected by Country, because they were the "Outlaws", and were considered too Rock to be country, now they're considered legends.
The stages that country goes through, you can't really define true country.
Anyway, enough rambling from me.
I'm listening to When You Come Back To Me Again by Garth Brooks
SXViper February 23rd, 2008, 07:50 AM Stuck on Hardcore Superstar until the lastest Alan Jackson album comes out.
Bek February 25th, 2008, 05:04 AM I've heard the first single from the AJ album Viper, and if the rest of the album is as good as this first single, we're in for a treat. Alan back at his best!
Currently I'm listening to The Thunder Rolls by Garth Brooks.
From The Ultimate Hits album, which I've listened to about 4 times today.
Moonshine_Sally February 25th, 2008, 09:06 AM Tv station TMF and it's just some modern not very interesting music.
Bek February 25th, 2008, 09:47 PM The Beaches Of Cheyenne by Garth Brooks

SXViper March 5th, 2008, 11:02 PM I just picked up the new Alan Jackson cd. Good cd and nice to hear the "old" Alan after his previous album. My wife liked that one but I just couldn't get into that one. This is more my style, "Good Times"!!!!!!!!
Bek March 6th, 2008, 04:25 AM I didn't really like the last Alan album either Viper. I love Small Town Southern Man from the new one though, it's the only track I've heard so far, can't wait to buy the album.
I'm listening to Where Your Road Leads by Trisha Yearwood.
This song was written by the one and only Garth Brooks who also provides the backing vocals...one of my favourite Trisha songs.
H.sanada March 10th, 2008, 06:55 AM I'm listening to "the story of my life"by Deana Carter.
Track 2 of this CD is "One day at a time".
At first, though the performance is wonderful, but,
the lyrics is ordinary,i thought.
However,it was surprised to hear lyrics "John Wayne".
.......
You can tell ol' James Dean
To get in line
Thanks to Jesus and John Wayne
The world will never be the same
You gotta make history
one day at a time.........
may2 March 10th, 2008, 06:38 PM I loved Like Red on A Rose. Alan's new album is great as always. He wrote all 17 tracks. He is a great songwriter.
chester7777 March 11th, 2008, 12:03 PM I know this will sound boring, but we are listening to live streaming of talk radio. It's one way for me to stay informed on local, national and world events while working in the house (or catching up on the message board).
As a side note, if anyone ever wants to hear what the weather is in our neck of the woods, just "Listen Live" to KGO 810AM (http://www.kgoam810.com/listenlive.asp) at around 8:40 AM (Pacific Daylight Time, or Greenwich Mean Time -8 ). I am in daily contact with their weather man (have been for 14 years now  - he calls me). Whoever answers the phone and tells him the temp and conditions gets their name on the radio.
Anyway, looking forward to a day with mild temperatures and increasing cloudiness. There is a slight possibility of rain later in the week.

Bek March 25th, 2008, 06:28 AM Standing Outside The Fire by Garth Brooks.
Life is not tried, it is merely survived, if you're standing outside the fire.
Can't get much truer than that line there.
chester7777 March 29th, 2008, 12:59 AM Blake Shelton, singing "Austin" - I NEVER get tired of that romantic song!
And speaking of sweet, romantic songs - Randy Travis singing "Forever and Ever Amen" and "Deeper Than the Holler" . . . .

I just never get sick of this song, and the clip is just so good, our own JW is featured in it.

If you've heard this song, then you'll know what I'm talking about when I say that it really touched me for that friend to say it.
gt12pak April 25th, 2008, 03:44 PM Just thought I'd (bump) this one back up since I just got the new Whitesnake disc and from what I hear, it's not too bad. This one goes out to SXViper.
SXViper April 25th, 2008, 09:01 PM Hey gt, I was going to get ahold of you. I picked it up on Tuesday as well. Fun to hear the old sound. Its classic Whitesnake, just the way I like it!!!!

Redcap May 1st, 2008, 05:10 AM Hello All,
I like to listen to "The Best of the Shadows". I was lucky enough to meet them in the 1960's at the "I's" club in Soho in London. Hank Marvin plays lead guitar with Bruce Welch playing rythm guitar. Thay lasted together until the late 1980's when Hank migrated to Western Australia. A good group who were/are very versatile.

gt12pak May 1st, 2008, 08:21 PM Just thought I'd break out some Tim Mcgraw with MY FAVORITE BAND OF ALL TIME....DEF LEPPARD. Whitesnake last week and Def Leppard this week. The last time I remember buying back-to-back hair band cd's was back in the eighties. Talk about de-ja-vu. (sp)

SXViper May 7th, 2008, 11:53 PM Hello Bek, I just picked up George's new one as well. Classic country is the best. I also picked up Blake Shelton's new one, Pure BS. I like that song, "The more I drink".
dc65 May 9th, 2008, 11:13 PM If your into acoustic type stuff you should check out Dustin Kensrue. He's the lead singer from Thrice, a metal/punk band that does a fair share of screaming, but his solo cd is mostly him and a guitar and some really great singing. Its a short cd, maybe a half hour long, but I've listened to it ten times this week. I really love it
Bek May 11th, 2008, 05:47 AM The Cowboy Song - Garth Brooks
I love this song, it describes how I think a cowboy should be, reminds me of Duke actually.
Just clicked over to,

SXViper June 9th, 2008, 09:49 AM I just purchased a new cd for my dad and it fit's in nicely for the forum here.
Its called Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs by Marty Robbin's. Some memorable songs from the album are Big Iron and El Paso.
ethanedwards June 9th, 2008, 10:22 AM Tod, I remember that album, first time around!!
I sure do like those gunfighter ballads.
Incidently as a teenager,
El Paso, was the very first record, that I actually
purchased with my own money.
Ah sweet memories!!
j.p.harrah June 9th, 2008, 10:27 AM i hear the new john fogerty - great stuff this revival-album
SXViper June 9th, 2008, 12:33 PM Keith, I believe it came out in 1959. My dad was sure happy to get it. He has the vinyl 33 rpm LP and I remember listening to it when I was a kid. But he has no player to play it on. Plus now he can listen to it while in the car. I would recommend it to anyone here as it sure does conjure up some images of the old west while listening to it. I found mine on EBay for $9.00 plus $4.00 shipping.
SXViper July 25th, 2008, 10:29 AM Well, I was going through some of my website's that update info on artist's from the 80's rock and there was a segment on Billy Idol releasing a 2 disc set. So I went to his myspace page and low and behold there was a new song he has on the new album called John Wayne. Its not all that hard of a song and I actually really like it. Here is a link to his myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/billyidol Let me know what you think.
SXViper July 25th, 2008, 07:37 PM And he had this to say about John Wayne. Billy Idol sounds like a alright guy in my book.
Of his new song “John Wayne,” Idol says, “When I'm singing it, I'm thinking about the characters John Wayne played. They were usually men with a flaw in their character or something dark in their past they're trying to rise above before the end of the movie. So it's not about the kick-in-the-door John Wayne or the barroom fight John Wayne -- it's more the man who overcomes.”
Bek July 26th, 2008, 07:29 AM And he had this to say about John Wayne. Billy Idol sounds like a alright guy in my book.

I've got a friend who is a huge Billy Idol fan, and they sent me that song knowing I was a huge Duke fan, and I really like it, I don't like that much of his stuff, but I really like this one.
I'm currently listening to a Chris LeDoux mix CD I have in the stereo, up to Life Is A Highway at the moment.
chester7777 August 19th, 2008, 12:44 AM I don't know if anyone else does, but I like to listen to music when I'm on the computer.
I like to listen music when I'm on the computer, too, and YouTube has really expanded my horizons well beyond my CD collection to almost whatever my little heart desires. Of course, I have to interrupt my work more often to go pick a new song, but sometimes it's worth the trouble.
Tonight I am listening to Cass Elliot (aka Mama Cass, of the Mamas and the Papas. What a rich voice she had! My favorite song of hers? New World Coming, Move in a Little Closer Baby, and It's Getting Better.
It seems that some of my favorite artists died untimely deaths - Cass Elliot, Jim Croce, Karen Carpenter. Now, thanks to the internet, I can learn all kinds of things about them, long after they have died.
Sorry for the little ramble - it's an especially quiet night at home. Chester has fallen asleep, the teenagers are out for the evening, one son is at a friend's house overnight, and the grandson, who's been here for days, is back with his mom.
I am enjoying the music . . . and tooling around here.

Seems we share similar tastes, Sue. "New World Coming" is also my favorite by Mama Cass (I have it loaded on my computer and listen to it quite often). I also have two of Jim Croce's songs and three Carpenter's songs loaded. Like you, I thought they passed on far too early.

SXViper August 21st, 2008, 02:59 PM G N R were awesome. I am starting to hear rumblings again of the new album, "Chinese Democracy", that it might get released. Should be quit interesting to see why Axl break up one of the best bands in the buisness to make this album.
luckynedpepper August 21st, 2008, 03:02 PM Hasn't chinese democracy been on and off for about 10 years?
I saw Guns N Roses twice when they came over to England in the 90's and they were awesome
SXViper August 21st, 2008, 11:09 PM Yes, it keeps getting delayed. For no known reason. From what I have read and heard, Axl is a eccentric SOB and he basically drove out the original band members Slash, Duff, Matt Sorum, and Izzy. Steven Adler(original drummer) was kick out cause he couldn't kick the drugs, Izzy(original rythum guitar) quit because he couldn't take being around the band and all the drugs, Gilby Clark(took Izzy's place) left when all the other's left because Axl was basically a tyrannt. Dizzy is still with the band but he was brought in to play keyboards during the Use Your Illusion records, so I don't count him as original. Kind of said since they were so popular and seems Axl has messed up a good band. I hope this Album is worth it. One of the new songs is going to be in the new Rock Band video game coming out next month. The song is called "Shackler's Revenge". I have not heard it myself, so I cannot comment on it yet.

Oh yeah, I have both Velvet Revolver albums. I liked the 1st one, Contraband more then the second one, Libertad. Yes and Scott Wieland quit or was kicked out, depending on who you believe. He is singing with his original band, Stone temple Pilots again. I never really cared for him anyways and I have to believe that they can find someone better to front the band.
I don't think you will see Axl and the original members get back together as there was alot of stuff going on and I don't think they can forgive each other. Look for a new singer to be announced for VR real soon. As far as I am concerned Slash is a class act and plays a awesome guitar.
luckynedpepper August 22nd, 2008, 12:12 PM SXViper, agree with all your points about VR.
cheers luckynedpepper
gt12pak August 29th, 2008, 03:26 PM Can't remember where I heard or read this from, but from what I understand, VR were in the middle of a concert and in between songs, Weiland tells the audience that they were a part of something special and he goes on to tell them that this is the last tour by VR. The rest of the members were completely caught off guard. Wouldn't you have loved to have been a fly on the wall backstage after that show was over?

Yes i bet there were a few harsh words exchanged and probably a few punches as well.It would have been great to watch!!!!
Listening to Dean Martin tonight as i'm chilling out + don't want anything too loud!!
gt12pak August 29th, 2008, 03:45 PM I forgot to post this earlier, but another statement Weiland said is that he thought Axl might not be the bad guy, so I'm sure there were many harsh words exchanged.
luckynedpepper August 29th, 2008, 03:55 PM Axl to join VR?? Could that possibly happen?? I doubt it myself but stranger things have happened!!
luckynedpepper August 29th, 2008, 05:10 PM I heard the FBI arrested some bloke today who alledgedly put some tracks from Chinese Democracy onto the internet. I wonder if he will be sent down for that ?
SXViper August 29th, 2008, 06:04 PM I doubt Axl will ever go to VR. If and I mean a BIG if they were to get back together I am sure they would all unite under the G n R name. It carries way more wieght then VR does.
Yes, they arrested that guy out in California and he should get whatever he has coming to him. There are more arrests coming though because someone from the inside had to of supplied the music to this person. The only other statement that I have abotu this is, can you blame anyone for wanting to hear music from "Chinese Democracy" ? It's been like 10-12 years that Axl has been working it. To me it's pathetic.
And as far as Weiland goes, he is just as goofy and eccentric as Axl was/still is??? He was trying to tick off the rest of the band because he had already decided that he was going back to STP(Stone Temple Pilots) and it would be much easier if he just acted like a jerk, which he did a first class job of. As you can tell I don't think very much of Weiland, I think he is actually worse then Axl and that is saying alot!!
And to get back to the theme of this thread. I have been listening to Dragonforce lately. If you have played Guitar Hero 3 you might have heard the song "Through the Fire and Flames". They have unbelievable guitar work on these albums. Its very fast, kind of a speed metal but there are great melodies in the music, so there is not this screaming/growling that goes with speed metal so many times. Check them out on MySpace or Youtube.

As much as I liked some of the traditional country artists I have really been listening to hard rock lately. The new Metallica album is quit good, like there stuff in the 80's. Black Stone Cherry is quite good as well. And like luckynedpepper, I love GnR and I think Appetite for Destruction is one of the top 10 albums of all time.

Hi Stumpy my friend, you like disco music?
Heh,heh,heh.
I heard cd by Bob Seger "Greatest Hit".
When i was 20, listend to his record(not cd,vinyl record) for the first time.
Now,the goodness of his tune & lyrics are better than that of old times.
and it come to be able to undrstand better.
In this cd,my favorite are the song "Against The Wind" and "Old Time Rock & Roll"
Bob songs
Just take those old records off the shelf
I'll sit and listen to 'em by myself
Today's music aln 't got the same soul
I like that old time rock 'n' roll
Don't try to take me to a disco
You'll never even get me out on the
In ten minutes I'll be late for the door
I like that old time rock'n' roll
Still like that old time rock'n' roll
That kind of music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock 'n' roll
Won't go to hear them play a tango
I'd rather hear some blues or funky old soul
There's only sure way to get me to go
Start playing old time rock 'n' roll
Call me a relic, call me what you will
Say I'm old-fashioned, say I'm over the hill
Today' music ain't got the same soul
I like that old time rock 'n' roll

Taka

The same "generation gap" that affects movie tastes also affects music tastes, Todd. I'm not denigrating your tastes in music because I'm a firm believer in the philosophy of "different strokes for different folks". It's just that I stopped listening to music after the early Seventies because hard rock and its' offshoots just ain't my thing. I've never even heard of the groups you name.

That's cool, alot of those bands were lost when the grudge rock of the 90's took over. There are very few 80's bands still making it by touring or even making albums, and doing it successfully.
My dad always like listening to music so I was brought up on 50's and 60's rock and country music. And you are right, different strokes for different folks.
By the way, I don't listen to music loud enough to make my ears bleed!!!

Release date is Nov. 23rd. Will I be getting it?? I have heard a few songs off from it and so far I am not to impressed by it. I hate to say that ,but I really think the music will suffer without Slash contributing to it. The way I understood how they worked together was that Slash or even Duff would come up with a riff, and then Axl would hear it and then put some lyrics together. From the couple songs that I heard so far it sounds very "industrial", and Axl's voice and the guitars sound so "manipulated". Guess I will hold out hope and wait to hear more songs from the album.

Hi Chester,
I enjoyed this song just as country song.
When i was a boy, i spent a lot of time listening to radio.
and in 60's - 70's,it was time that having to buy the vinyl record
when i grew a little more.
It is wonderful that the musicians whom i heard well at that era
are still active now.For instance, they are Neil Young, Carole King,
John Fogerty(C.C.R.),The Rolling Stones,Paul McCartney,Elton John
and more.
So, i don't take an interest in today's music except country music.
I like especially the female singers in modern country as Martina McBride,
Deana Carter,Dixie Chicks, Sara Evans.....
regards,Taka

I think the new AC/DC cd is good. Its more like "Thunderstruck" and earlier. Just good old Angus riffs and Johnson vocals. I recommend it.

I have this one as well and my opinion on this cd is that if you like any ac/dc cd's, then you should like this one as well. The one thing I will give to ac/dc is that they came up with a sound and all their music seems to have the same sound. Me personally, I like it. Rock on.

clancy November 11th, 2008, 12:02 PM Rush Limbaugh, come next year he may be a thing of the past. :glare:
chester7777 November 11th, 2008, 12:27 PM Way to go Clancy, think I'll tune him in also. Along with Rush, we'll be losing Mike Savage, Sean Hannity.
Stumpy November 11th, 2008, 02:48 PM I used to listen to Rush religiously but finally he got a little too strident for me. Not only that but I got tired of listening to him pat himself on the back.
If the Dems pass the "Fairness Doctrine" BS again, I wouldn't put it past Rush to find himself a fairly close Caribbean Isle, erect a thousand foot antenna, with a million amp microphone, and blow the Dems off the map, just to spite the SOBs.
chester7777 November 12th, 2008, 08:27 AM . . .I got tired of listening to him pat himself on the back.
I hear what you are saying, but he was there for us during the election. For his continuing ratings he is probably happier Obama won. Even with the threat of the "Fairness Doctrine" he'll have more controversy to talk about with the new administration. That's when he gets his biggest following - during controversial things going on.
dukefan1 November 12th, 2008, 10:03 AM Ok, before I go into total disbelief....can someone explain what this "Fairness Doctrine" is about?

Stumpy November 12th, 2008, 11:24 AM Ok, before I go into total disbelief....can someone explain what this "Fairness Doctrine" is about?

It was a policy in effect until about 1987, when the Reagan administration did away with it. It said that if radio stations broadcast any political advice or news, that both the conservative and liberal points of view had to be broadcast. The liberals have tried several times to broadcast their points of view to counter many conservative talk show hosts, such as Rush, but each time they've tried, their programs were soon taken off the air because nobody listened to them or bought ad time on them.
Stumpy November 12th, 2008, 11:27 AM Here's (http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2053)a link I found on Google which explains the act more fully (from a liberal viewpoint).
oldtucsonxtra November 12th, 2008, 12:02 PM Old Time Radio Shows . . . Being new to this forum there hasn't been time to read all the entries but just in case the Old Time Radio links aren't included here is a link to some Westerns from www.radiolovers.com -
http://www.radiolovers.com/pages/westerns.html
Some of the other free Internet OTR sites air John Wayne including "Fort Apache" which we recorded for our MP3 player. Also Lux Radio Theater includes some other Westerns.
dukefan1 November 13th, 2008, 08:07 AM Thanks for explaining that to me, Stumpy. I understand now. In today's world, we can't go hurting anyone's feelings now, or be unfair to another. Nope, sure can't. Rubbish!
Mark
chester7777 November 13th, 2008, 09:31 AM In our area we have a 50,000 watt AM radio station, KGO, that late at night can be heard from Alaska down to Mexico and as far east as Montana on a good night. They are almost always spreading leftist propaganda to the unsuspecting (dare I say . . . ignorant?) public. I guess if the Fairness Doctrine gets reinstated, maybe they will have to get Rush on their station .
They have one guy, Dr. Bill Wattenburg, who stands out like a sole beacon, regarding more conservative viewpoints. He's on most weekends, and you can listen to him via live streaming.
As it got closer to the election, I wanted to :vomit: listening to the news people in the morning, who were most decidedly NOT objective.
But I know there is a God, because wiithin the past year, two of their most liberal talk show hosts have been fired, one very recently (for making an obscenity-laden [what might have been construed to be a] death threat when he thought the microphone was off), the other for involvement in child pornography (he's doing hard prison time now for that one). There's still one raving leftie who's on in the middle of the night, and you can bet he was crowing with glee after the election. I wonder what his downfall will be. All I can say is . . . keep praying!

oldtucsonxtra November 13th, 2008, 09:55 AM Chester,
Reading your long "Welcome" again today was truly appreciated by we "Newbies" (don't know who added "Tenderfoot" to our I.D. but we love it!). And after reading your most recent entry to this thread all we can say is: "Amen"! Yours is a welcome voice from Northern CA . . .
John Wayne's legacy represents to us the God and Country strength which Hollywood performers sadly lack today. And if the mis-named Fairness Doctrine is enacted we may be relying on Forums such as these to exchange those conservative views which we admired in "The Duke".
Still trying to figure out how to maneuver "threads" on your Forum so as not to repeat our posts. Your patience is appreciated!

Hi, I'm Larry Snode, a new member . . . .
I would like to make all members aware of my pet project. I have an online radio station, Golden Age Film Music, on Live365 radio where I broadcast movie soundtracks and other movie related music and sound clips.
This month is Westerns month at my station and I'm broadcasting over 10 straight hours of western movie soundtracks, 24 hours a day 7 days a week on a continuous loop. I play a lot of John Wayne music such as music from The Searchers, Chism, Fort Apache, El Dorado, The Cowboys, The War Wagon, Hondo, The Alamo, Big Jake and all kinds of Western movie favorites.
So if you like to see and hear what it's all about just go to http://www.live365.com/stations/nedland20

SXViper April 24th, 2009, 11:00 AM I have been on a Keith Urban "kick" lately. I have both his Greatest Hits and his new one Defying Gravity. I have become really selective when it comes to country music lately and cannot stand alot of the newer artists as it seems alittle too much like pop music. But I like him. He is from Australia too Bek, which I a sure you already know.
Now saying all that doesn't mean that I am not listening to my hard rock music either. I am still listening to lots of Metallica and the new Shinedown cd is especially good. I have always liked both genre's of music. Just cannot stand Rap crap!! :vomit:

I love Calamity Jane, Stumpy! Being a Doris Day fan, you may not have checked out the new re-worked version that popped up on Broadway a little while ago. I didn't care for it much - had a lot of the same tunes, but put a few new ones in that I felt were unnecessary. I like Doris Day, but I love Howard Keel's voice.
And on a side-note, I recently took a history class solely because the professor's name was Danny Gilmartin!
And Mrs. C. - I constantly have to tell the people I work with that they need to give show tunes a try, but I think I scare them when I try to sing 'em!
Anyhoo - I'm not listening to anything right now, but the CD player in my car has my country mix in it - it's probably on Randy Travis right about now.

I am currently listening to the new Chickenfoot cd. If you are a fan of older Sammy Hagar you will like this new cd. The band consists of Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Micheal Anthony(ex Van Halen bass guitarist), and Chad Smith( drummer from Red Hot Chili Peppers). Lots of talent and it shows. Ned,
Go to the second "sticky" thread in the YouTube Video Forum and Mrs. C explains how it's done. The only thing is - if you're trying to post something modern, that's popular with the younger folks, whoever posted the video on YouTube will usually insert something that'll prevent their posting from being copied elsewhere, such as I did
