Alright, I got an email back from Zippo.com. They do not currently make a John Wayne Zippo lighter. I still can't believe they don't make one. I say we all email Zippo and suggest that they do. Maybe they'll get enough letters and decide to design one.

It might not be as easie as all that  The John Wayne family has very ,very tight control over the rights on John Wayne

There are zippos with a Green Beret portrait, and several others, they are frequently offered on Ebay at low prices; if you'll be watching Ebay patiently you should find one.

Robbie,

Zippo is a brand of cigarette lighter, one that's been around for a long time. They are generally much nicer than those throw-away plastic things people buy for real cheap.

Here's a link to their web site -

You can learn more things around here . . .

hi robbie,

the zippo has a metal caseing with a flint and is filled with lighter fluid into a wad of material. my brother has one that he toke to malayasia when he went there for a exercise with the army (as he uses this when he is out bush it is cammo coloured) while he was in malayasia his friend toke it to a fellow there and asked him to make a copy of it well he did dints and all even do to the id number on the bottom. so if you find one try to make sure the person who had it last didn't go to malayasia :D .

cheers smokey

The neat thing about the company is that it was about to go bankrupt back in 1941 and WWII came along and suddenly every service man just had to have one. They used it for all kinds of stuff. Handwarmer, firestarter, mirror signaler, ect. It truly was a lifesaver.

Maybe Wayne's family is a little reluctant to give up the rights to Zippo seeing how the Duke died of lung cancer...

You know, that is very insightful of you John T. Chance. I never even thought of that angle. I would almost bet that they wouldn't give the rights because of that very reason. It would be like using Natalie Wood's image on swimming suits. It just ain't right. I can see their point (if that was the case). dukefan1

I would have to agree about the lung cancer issue. Think about it, on of the greatest known americans who died of cancer on a Zippo. That would be alittle tacky.

I have a Zippo lighter, and I don't smoke. That lighter is use for other things, but I do agree that lighter is generally used to light a cigerette, cigar, or pipe. And I guess to light up an occasional joint. That's pretty bad; sorry 'bout that. Couldn't resist.
