Myself and some pals got into an interesting chat over a few beers not long ago

It started about film actors going into polictics

Clint Eastwood as a mayor, big arnie running California and Ron Reagan running top office as president

What about if Duke had followed suit and thrown his stetson into the polictical arena?

We were a bit divided on this one, but it turned out to be a good debate

What I would like to hear from members on this site is 2 things

If JW had ran for presidential office would the american public have voted him in ?

Secondly, IF he had became president would he have been a good president ?

I am interested in members views on this topic and I look forward to your replies

Regards

John

Maybe back in the Fifties or Sixties, at the height of his popularity, he might have been voted into the presidency - it's hard to say for sure.

I personally think he would have been a great president but then that's 60 years of devotion talking.

I remember reading that Duke was asked to run for President . His reply was, " I can't, it would be too much of a pay cut."
Which, back then, he was probably correct.

I agree with Stumpy that his time to run would be back in the 50's or 60's. So it would have been against Eisenhower in 1952 or 1956, Kennedy in 1960 or Johnson in 1964. I also agree with Chester that he was approached and turned it down because of the pay cut.

If Duke would have agreed he would have been a great president or impeached. I think he would not put up with the crap in Washington and either shoot them (the impeachment part) or removed them (the great part). Either way, it would have been a great day in the U.S.A.

I do believe that he knew that he would not run because he was not interested in it IMO.

Cheers  Hondo

Probably the 60's would have been a good time, but one event that came up in the debate IF Duke was president, how would HE have handled the Cuban Missile Crisis ?
