Hello ;)
While I was waiting on Robbie to make 300 posts (sorry Robbie 24 hrs killed me  ) I was reviewing alot of the older posts  I came across one that got me thinking today  I believe it was Hondo's idea  but in my scatter brained state I cannot remember for sure

Here's the idea :o If you could place yourself in any role as a supporting actress or actor in a John Wayne movie

What movie would it be B)
What actress or actor would you be B)
and explain your thoughts B)

I already have this one completely figured out
Happy posts :D
Monique ;)

P.S. Mrs. Chester on my Shopping spree I broke down and got three new DVD's :P

Chisum
Rio Bravo

Hm-m-m-m, I think I'll kill three birds with one post . . .

First, I think I'd LOVE to be George "Gabby" Hayes aside John Wayne, in any and all movies he made with the Duke. What a character! His acting ability still amazes me to this day. He was a side kick to Roy Rogers and others as well. He made over 180 movies, plus his own TV show series in the '50s.

Second, this is directed to Hondo, who asked me this question in a different thread (but I can't remember which one  ), so I'll answer here. The question was How many movies have I bought from Deep Discount DVD (great prices, free shipping!)? Hondo turned me onto that site, and I keep promoting it on this site, but must confess that until this week, I hadn't bought any from them yet, so I ordered three DVDs, and expect them in a few days. We ordered Brannigan, Reap the Wild Wind, and Gunfight at the OK Corral (yeah, I know it's not a John Wayne movie, but after my trip to Tombstone earlier this year, I just had to have it).

Third . . . Monique, I guess you have heard that great John Wayne quote,

"When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping." ;)

That was John Wayne, wasn't it, or is my memory acting up again?

Hello

My selected role would be that of Stephanie Powers in McLintock!

The best of three worlds
Patrick Wayne for a Husband
John Wayne as a Father
Maureen O'Hara as a Mother

Well I'm going to go hide all the pans in the house :D

Monique,

What an incredible thought!

When I was a kid, I used to imagine having different movie stars for my parents. Julie Andrews was my choice for mother, and I thought Andy Griffith would make a pretty nice dad. But John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara . . . I love it!

Chesty the interesting thing about Andy Griffin is one critic of the Alamo said that he should have played Davy Crockett instead of the Duke.

I did answer it before, but I have to say, that without looking back to see what I posted, I will answer this again, and see if I am consistant. I would love to play the part of Earl Holliman, and kick Bud Elder's butt until he acted better in The Sons of Katie Elder (ha-ha-ha) or (lol). I know, I know he dies in the movie, but Michael Anderson Jr. was so bad, I just want to kick him so hard. Or if I had a choice, I'd play Bud Elder, and show that I can act a lot better (lol)!

On a serious note, I would like to play in Ward Bond's parts, he really shined so well in many of Duke's movies. It's a shame he had to die back in 1960. He would have been great in McLintock!, The War Wagon, The Green Berets, Hellfighters, True Grit, Chisum, Cahill, United States Marshal, Brannigan, Dovanan's Reef, The Sons of Katie Elder, The Undefeated, Rio Lobo, El Dorado, The Comancheros, and The Shootist.

Cheers, Hondo B)

Hondo,
On the other hand, playing the roles of Ben Johnson would not be bad either. But I think I like something in either Sands of Iwo Jima, Flying Leathernecks, or the Green Berets

Oh, you military types!

I guess you want to serve with Duke in the Marines. I figured it out by your listings of two, and looked up Flying Tigers to make sure that was in the same branch of the arm forces.

A good foe to have on your side when times get tough.

Cheers, Hondo B)

This thread is an oldie but a goodie, but I think we can have some fun with it. Go back to the top and get the flow, and then go with it . . . .

I think I'll go back even further, than anyone.

I'd like to have been Yakima Canutt
Although I'm a million miles away,
from being a horseman, or athletic,
it looks like they had great fun, learning the trade,
mastering the fight techniques, e.t.c.

They had such great camaraderie,
and I think it would have been wonderful
to be part of that.

Most of all I would like to be John Wayne himself, especially in any of the late rough and tough parts without romancing, but that wasn't an option. Then for example Angie Dickinson, Gail Russell or Maureen O'Hara, for obvious reasons I suppose, but then again there's nothing of those women in me and I couldn't play such roles, not even to get Duke in my arms. So my final choice echoes Ethan E, Yakima Canutt, he's got the best riding parts, never mind I probably wouldn't be impressive fighting against Duke, even though I'm not a bad boxer

For myself, I would have enjoyed playing any of the Duke's buddies in The Quiet Man.

I like the era the film portrays.

I think I would like to have been John Ford. To have been that good of a Director . . . . .at the same time making sure I wasn't the grumpy ass that he was, if that is possible, and to still be great.

Any of the Characters roles in The Longest Day. I pick this because, even though I am a fan of westerns, historically speaking, WW2 has always been fascinating too me.
