Oh, of course they will! And I do believe The Duke will be touched that you are doing this in his honor. I hope you cut a nice big slice for him.
Happy celebrating!

BILL OF PA May 19th, 2008, 03:26 PM I see nothing wrong with cake and singing happy birthday to someone who's no longer with us. Lee Marvin did it in Cat Ballou and won a oscar.
ps! We had cake and sang happy birthday to Duke last year at Winterset.

QuietManinMinn May 26th, 2008, 01:06 PM The Quiet Man in Minn sends Best Wishes and a Hearty Happy Birthday to The Quiet Man on his 101st Birthday. America could sure use a LEADER like Wayne right now - we have lost our way at present and there are a lot of Pilgrims here that do not have America in their Hearts the way the Duke Loved America.:broken_heart:
And now recently we lost Charlton Heston. I am affeared that America's Best Days are behind her - and our national leadership seems hell bent on sending us further down the road to decline - and the crop of candidates is just more of the same. Americans that are Proud of our past like myself miss you Duke. You made us proud of who we were.:cry2:
Happy Birthday Duke - American was a better place because of you!

CowgirlAlane May 26th, 2008, 02:49 PM HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUKE! ! !
You are special to me. You set a standard of class and character unmatched. I wish Hollywood still sought it ! There is an even more special place you hold in my heart.
You remind me so of my Dad. Many, including me, commented on how much he favored you, even down to facial expressions and comments. Lucky me! I learned recently that
you, Duke, were the inspiration for the gospel song, "It is no secret what God can Do."
How fitting !
Kcat May 26th, 2008, 04:00 PM Kcat here. I found the lyrics to "It Is No Secret What God Can Do", and I'm posting the song here for all to read! Thanks CowgirlAlane for letting us know about this!
It Is No Secret What God Can Do
The chimes of time ring out the news
Another day is through
Someone slipped and fell
Was that someone you?
You may have longed for added strength
Your courage to renew
Do not be disheartened
For I have news for you
It is no secret what God can do
What He's done for others, He'll do for you
With arms wide open, He'll pardon you
It is no secret what God can do
There is no night for in His light
You never walk alone
Always feel at home
Wherever you may go
There is no power can conquer you
While God is on your side
Take Him at His promise
Don't run away and hide
It is no secret what God can do
What He's done for others, He'll do for you
With arms wide open, He'll pardon you
It is no secret what God can do
TRIVIA:
The title for this song is thought to have been taken from a chance
remark that actor John Wayne once made to Stuart Hamblen. The writer
then proceeded to complete the song in under ten minutes.
(From lyricsplayground.com)
Here's little more on the back story from oldkunnel.net:
"One night while at a party, Stuart Hamblen was cornered by John Wayne who found his new-found religious zeal hard to believe. (Mr. Hamblen had been a rounder and a hard drinking man.) During his conversation with the actor, Stuart remarked off-handedly, "Well, it's no secret what God can do." As Stuart was leaving the actor's house that evening, the Duke walked up to him and told him he should write a song about the comment he had made. That chance remark led to It Is No Secret (what God can do), a tune that provided a Top 10 country hit not only for Hamblen, but also proved successful for Red Foley, with the Andrews Sisters, Jo Stafford, and Bill Kenny and the Song Spinners. Later, Elvis Presley and the Jordanaires recorded it and it became one of their best known Gospel hits."
Blessings,
Kcat
