After comparing the Eastwood pistols in the post Wayne and Eastwood which made quite obvious that the pistol sold for 10000 bucks was a fake, I want to share this bit of information.

Before that, I'd like to mention again that I'm not saying which is fake and which one isn't. Fact is, there are many fakes out there. Decide for yourselves.

A couple of days ago, there was a "John Wayne worn shirt" on Ebay, claimed to have been worn in Hondo. It even had the original Western costume labels on it. I asked a good friend of mine about that because the price seemed to be affordable - that's the first thing that one should get suspicous - he's in the US, and often working for famous auction houses, checking on the history of items. There is kind of a code in the wardrobe labels; only people who know about it can tell if these points are correct: Correct for the year in which the piece and the film were made, correct for the size (Wayne's size is known to these people), correct even for the typewriter that was used typing the label. It failed in all those points.

That shirt sold for $2125 (a proofed original would sell for more, double that at least for Hondo). And now that same seller has posted a fake Frank Sinatra. This is the third from this "series" with the same label with minor changes.

I asked the seller for more information about the piece before auction ended. He responded he would get it for me - but never got back to me.

I'm not accusing anyone. Sometimes somebody is selling who truly believes he has the real McCoy - only because he himself bought a fake. But that should make you think.

Here is something else to look out for, on the web I have noticed a lot of people have apparently met the Duke he has give them something and they want to sell it on. The problem is when they re-cite their story of meeting the Duke he seems to always say "Pilgrim" to them. This sounds a little suspicious, I'm not saying that all these people are crooks but jsut be careful.
