That John Wayne could not whistle. In the movie The High And The Mighty, since Duke couldn't whistle, they had someone do it for him.

Mine is according to The John Wayne Reference Book.

Thats pretty interesting Hondo but one thing that puzzles me is in the movie "Rio Lobo" there is a scene with the Duke whistleing, was that dubbed as well. Its seems strange as there was no real need for it. Interestingly enough in "True Grit" Glen Campbell is whistleing and Duke utters the words "Damn a man that whistles", maybe him not being able to was the reason for this comment. :D

He whistles in the camp scence, the girl goes to the Duke your very happy and his reply is "well I've had about the right number of drinks and I am wark and I am relaxed and if you good people will excuse me I shall go to sleep".

This is a trival of FACTS about Duke, not a confirmation of him whistling in the movies. The fact is that DUKE CANNOT WHISTLE, I am sure that he had a stunt person to do the hard work for Duke in those whistling scenes. Let's stay with the topic, please.

He did indeed whistle in "Rio Bravo" I think he did it twice once earlier as well to Dean Martin I think when they were tracking down Ward Bonds killer. What other movies did he whistle in because I'm going to study these scenes and find out if it was him or not.
