Since I have been on this post I really started thinking as to why I love John Wayne. I was 3 when John Wayne Died. By Five he was the superhero, the one person who could hold off 20 bad guys and rescue the girl in matter of minutes. I learned that he was the ultimate Hero on screen. But, as I got older I learned that his heroism went well beyond the silver screen. He wasn't one of these Friday hero's that got paid a million dollars by staring in a movie that last 2 hours. I learnt through the John Waynes and my parents that you have to stand up for your country and respect it's soldiers. Never to forget that without the sacrifes of the Military we wouldn't be free today. I learned to live my moto..."You have got to stand for something or you will fall for anything" John Wayne stood for all that is good in Patiortism for ones country. To be honest I thought he was an American Hero but being on here and surfing the net alot, I realize that John Waynes message just isnt an "American" thing. Alot of countries embrace John Wayne because he IS patriotism at it'[s best.
So all in all I learned from John Wayne to question a persons power if they are abusing it but at the same time Respect and honor those who have served and contenue to serve. (My husband is in the First CaV divsion at Ft. Hood Texas, hes my very own real life John Wayne.)
I thought it might be fun to find out what he taught others...

you ask what did jw teach me he taught me that you can love your country ( no matter which country in the world you live in), respect those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country ( my husband was RAAF and my brother is armour div RAA). though it was my dad who taught me to shoot and look after your weapons.

I guess I could say that he taught me to stand up for what you believe in, no matter what the popular opinion of the day might be. If you know something is right, take the heat and stand your ground! I think that is why he never ran for office. Too much of that crap going on in Politics. That is the main thing I admire about John Wayne and I try to be just that! Never fold to anothers opinion if you know you are in the right. dukefan1

You don't have to always talk. Curtosy, modesty, honesty, stand up for what you believe in even if the whole world is against you.

Duke taught me to always appreciate what we all have. In the country (United States) the beauty of all parts of this country stands to say that we are truely blessed to have a free government(?), and ability to do our best, and most of all the resources (unlimited) to do whatever we want to better ourselves.
Duke came from a lot of odds in his life and controversy, but he is considered a legend by his own rights, and all he did was say what people want to say but never have the guts to say it. We adore his personality, and no nonsenses about life and the way to take it own. He didn't say it was easy, but it's doable. All we have to do is go out there, go against the odds, and show everybody that we can succeed.

I guess I could say that he taught me to always be myself. Never put on or be something or someone I'm not. I feel bad for people that go with the flow and ride on others coat tails to make people notice them. I always do my own thing and try to be different. I don't want the same as everyone else. I don't care much what others think or feel about me. I am who I am and that's it. I also value the country I live in and appreciate all that she offers. I'm very grateful.
