I love John Wayne flicks and I'm happy to be a member of the board...

One of my favorites is

El Dorado
...

I have a difference between best and favorite however... ;)

What are some of your favorites and why? :)

Without a doubt and a solid #1 is The Quiet Man. I love the humor mixed with the romantic. I also love the scenery and musical score.

I don't like to say what my favorite is until I've seen all of them, and I've got a long, LONG way to go... about 85 movies or so left to see. :-)

However, I mentioned yesterday that so far my real favorites are The Quiet Man, The Three Godfathers, and Red River. I laughed my tail off during The Three Godfathers, particularly when they're trying to take care of the baby and reading from that book. I've watched that scene many times since and every time it makes me giggle.

"If I had a sick polecat I wouldn't send for that Doc Meecham!" LOL!

I like to see different facets of what he was capable of - in RR he was tougher than nails but in TQM and The 3 Gs you can see that he could be tough and kind of sweet & funny at the same time.

Well for me it's Rio Bravo!

The Duke surrounded by Dean Martin, Walter Brennen, Ward Bond, Angie Dickinson. Great combo.

Well, I agree with the baron, it just depends on what mood I'm in.

But I would say the top ten movies for me would be, not in any particular order, and of course depending on the mood:

The Searchers
The Quiet Man
They Were Expendable
McLintock!
Rooster Cogburn
True Grit
The Shootist
Rio Bravo
Sands of Iwo Jima
Red River

There's still a bunch I haven't seen, so . . . .

After dukefan1's description of how much he likes Shepherd of the Hills, I think that'll be the next purchase.

Hello JWfan. I make mistakes all the time in my posts. Here's a little hint on fixing them without making another post. In your post, above on the right, there are 3 tabs. Report, Edit and Quote If you make a spelling error, or want to change something and you already posted it, click on the Edit button and you can fix it and save it again. One of the many tools that make this board easy to use. I like being able to fix my typos. Now I don't have White-out all over my screen. :D Hee hee! dukefan1

"Big Jake" will never win any awards but its a personal favourite maybe as its the first movie of the Dukes that I ever saw.

"El Dorado"and "The Comancheroes" are also quite popular with me.
