You know me people, I find the weirdest stuff on the net. Well, looking for John Wayne things, I came across this website that some people will make you a lifesize (6 ft. 2 ) doll of any celebrity you want. One that was made was a John Wayne doll! From what I gather, they are custom made for people. Here is the link to the site and check out the photos of the John Wayne doll. Let me know what you think!

Well Baron,

I have to differ from you. If this is a life size of John Wayne, then I must say it's not really true (Duke was 6'4")

Looks good to me. Did you find out how much it cost? I can't imagine owning such a product. If I want to store it, then I couldn't find a place.

Thanks for the info. I do like it!

Cheers, Hondo B)

Well, if Charlie Chaplin (at 5 ft. tall) was priced at $3500 (plus truck freight shipping), then John Wayne at 6'4" tall would have to be about $4400 plus shipping.

A bit much for my budget. <_<

Plus, I thought the picture looked more like Jimmy Durante. :uhuh:

I hope the folks who commissioned that aren't members of this message board. :o

Seriously, some of those were pretty good. I thought Groucho Marx was excellent!

Hondo, the height was taken from what they said it was. I miss posted that the JW doll was 6' 2, not all dolls. Besides, shouldn't it be called a John Wayne action figure?? John Wayne may have been called many things, but never a doll!! ;)

Mrs. Chester says, "I bet plenty of women considered John Wayne a doll, as in "What a doll!" or maybe an Action-Hunk."

Well, I have so say he looks all puckered up. I don't want to criticize anyone that has taken the time to make it but, it just doesn't resemble him.
Sorry

They made the dolls height at 6" 4 but duke was 6" 4 and 1/2.

The doll is truely horrible and where on earth did that hat come from.

I was looking at a few dolls in the John Wayne film society magazine and they look a lot better, although I still wouldn't purchase them.

Ugh. That didn't look anything like John Wayne to me. :stunned:

And hearing him referred to as a "doll" is a bit off-putting. I much prefer life-sized action hunk (nod to Mrs. Chester). :P

Hi,
Someone is selling a smaller JW doll on eBay... More easy for collectors!

You can check out that action figure dressed in the 7th Cavalry uniform at:

:cowboy: I've seen the John Wayne Cavalry doll before. It was part of the Rio Grande series that was made in the early 1990's. They also made a Maureen O'Hara doll and I THINK a Victor McLaglen doll. They sell here in the states from about $75.00 to $100.00 a pop (if you can find them)

I don't know if it's the same doll as that pictured but I have a John Wayne doll dressed in a cavalry costume, made by Effenbee, that I bought back in the early Eighties for about $30.

:cowboy: Hi Stumpy, I would not know for sure unless you had a picture of it? The makers name does sound familiar though.

Best regards--TRK.

I have the domes and really appreciate them every time I look at 'em. Mind you, the details are so tiny and carefully done that you'll only see them when you hold the thing in your hand. For instance: every dome has the name of John Wayne on a different rim, depending of the movie role that is portrayed. For instance, the Rio Grande dome features a detailed picture of the village they attack in the end of the movie, around the rim.

Don't trust the photos. But if you're patient you should be able to build your collection with ebay for much less than the original price.

There's a lot of kitsch out there, but everything that bears the Franklin Mint label, you can be sure it was approved by Wayne enterprises, and therefore true to the last little detail.

Hi

I have three the Rio Grande one, the Big Trail and Rio Bravo, you also have to be careful when you buy off of ebay. I brought the one from Stagecoach sent off the money but the dome never arrived.

I think in their own way the domes are probably better than the plates, but both are good.

Here's the whole lot on ebay, which brings the price of a single piece down to 15 bucks. Good bargain (that is, if they ever arrive, Arthur :dead: )!

itdo,

Thanks to you, we are now the proud owners of the items in the above referenced auction (and yes, they did arrive, along with a couple of framed prints of John Wayne at no extra charge :D !). There were actually twelve, but one came without the dome or certificate of authenticity, and another dome broke in the shipping. Otherwise, they are very nice, and the other eleven came with certificates of authenticity. Does anybody know where we can get a couple of the glass domes? Honestly, we haven't checked with Franklin Mint yet, and maybe it will be that simple. We'll keep you posted.

The same people have a set of 12 John Wayne collector plates from the Franklin Mint, with stands, still in original boxes with certificates of authenticity, and they indicate they will sell them for $150 for the set, and they will pay UPS ground shipping. We just don't have room for them, but maybe somebody else might be interested . . . if so, PM us and we'll get you in touch with them.

Thanks for the tip, itdo!

Hi Chester

When we were in Florida there was a huge craft shop, I think its part of a chain, and it sold everything that had any connection with art and crafts, and in one place they sold the glass domes, they came in all sizes and i definately saw some that are the right size for you. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the store, but it was big and it was located by the Beltz Supermart end just off of International Drive.

Hope this helps

I have just successfully bid for one of the domes on ebay, it was the one from Stagecoach and I paid £5.75 for it. I've wanted that one for a long time and If it arrives it will be well worth it.

Michaels seems to ring a bell, If they have stores nationwide then Chester should be up and running

YIPPEE

My Dome from Stagecoach arrived today thats pretty good and its brilliant, The picture doesn't do it justice especially with the road and the stagecoach coming down towards him.

It makes you want to go on and collect them all, and lucky is he who has the complete set.

I ordered mine directly from Franklin Mint when they first came out, and it was always a thrill when a package arrived - I think every half year or so - because you never knew which film-role they would portray next. But then again I paid much more than for what they are available today - probably because they didn't make them in a small limited number.

Arthur, look at the color of Ringo's bandana: even if the film's in black&white, they still got the colors right. Wayne went on to use that bandana, given to him by Ford, as a good-luck-omen in many films.

Hi Roland,

Comparing the model and the plate I see what you mean. I thought that the one he used in Hondo was the same, but comparing them, the later one seems to have more blue around the edge.
